Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

The furlough scheme will 100% not end on Wednesday. It has already been extended till 30 June at least. I actually think it will be extended further for lots of workers and I hope that's the case.

Please don't say things which are clearly not true.

From my experience, I have nothing but good things to say about the response from the treasury. My expectations were very low but the job retention scheme was extremely smooth and has processed claims for about 6m workers - no mean feat.

The furlough scheme can end tomorrow if the government so wishes.

June is 3 weeks away and there are already those Tories and Tory commentators claim it's made the working class 'idle' and 'workshy' in best Britannia Unchained 'lazy UK workers' rhetoric.

Don't know how true it is like:

Ministers are expected to extend the state bankrolling of wages until the end of September, albeit at a reduced rate of 60pc, while also topping up the pay packets of staff brought back to work on a part-time basis. Changes to the furlough scheme could be announced by Rishi Sunak, the Chancellor, today.

As with everything these days, it seems you can only have an extreme opinion on the internet.

People either think the lockdown was ridiculous and an assault of human freedom. Or people think we should be on lockdown for the rest of the year or until there's a vaccine.

My opinion is we needed the rules and they maybe came too late. But it's now been 7 weeks and I think we need to start planning to gradually lift the rules. An economic catastrophe is looking almost inevitable and people will suffer that way too. Theres no easy answers, but we cant stay like this forever.

We can't go on forever in lockdown, but it is still ripping through care homes in new areas of the country so it is too prevalent imho to cause confusion like this. With the increased use of public transport and people who think they are immune to it all. (My wife being one, she wants to see her pregnant sister and doesn't keep 2M apart despite my firm protests)

The only hope is that as it takes weeks to go through the system the numbers will actually be far lower as to who has it than it looks fron the stats now. I have always said before they released the lockdown they could have forced a total lockdown to give the best chance of wiping out the remenants before moving to this phase. I don't think (enough) people can be trusted to the right thing.

Really? I am just trying to conjure up what you might have been saying at this stage had the police and army really been patrolling the streets...

He now wants martial law, yet not so long ago he was screaming state sponsored murder, when anti terrorist Police took out ISIS terrorists on their way to murder and maim innocent people.

He is the gift that just keeps on giving.

I dont want the police or troops to murder people, though.

See the slight flaw in your juxtaposition?

I was thinking about playtime. When I have ever visited schools at that time, it's like organised chaos with children weaving in and out of each other.

"Sorry Little Johnny... you now need to play outside but you have to stay 2 metres apart!" With a confused face, "Miss, what's a metre?"

On another topic, my wife works for a school and apparently (word of mouth) there's been children trying to come today as the parents have gone back to work.

Unless the definition of a key worker has changed, my wife suspects there'll be some aggravation caused because of this as they're turning them away.
Mate, I don't use the term false news lightly, in fact I've never used it before. But I can't believe there is anybody in the country who is that stupid.

There may however be people out there who are just being bloody minded.
