Depends on contact tracing success imo. If it works I'm hoping that, along with continued social distancing methods, we'll be able to keep a lid on this thing until a vaccine is available, without having to resort to a second lockdown

That's why TTI is so important
This is why I get frustrated by the “it is the economy or grandma’s life and I choose economy” vibe I get from some. Perhaps ultimately we won’t be as good as doing TTI as some other countries but many seem to be wanting to give up before even trying the damn thing.

And if the CCP had told the truth from day one, the whole world would be at least a month further on and thousands would still be alive across the globe.

Let’s not lose sight of the forest for the trees.

Oh I agree the Chinese government has original responsibility but given we all knew about this in early Jan and our preparation was disastrous, if they had told us two weeks earlier what would we have done differently?

Scotland have just announced Lockdown extension, no date given but BBC quotes that under law it has to be reviewed every 3 weeks so I'm guessing 3 weeks, cant see us foing any different which us entirely right thing to do but as a caveat maybe some focus will be given on Sunday by Boris on how to restart economy and I'm not in anyway dismissing the deaths but we do need to establish a plan.

We shouldn’t forget the Sunday Times article that suggested they were ok with 100000 dying, but not around half a million.

I learnt the hard way at Uni that arguments over politics is very unattractive to the ladies - come on lads do you want @LinekersLegs and @RAFUH to think we are a gang of nerds???

I'm going to suggest that perhaps it was that you considered them arguments instead of conversations, discussions, or a sharing of ideas that was found unattractive.

Additionally, @LinekersLegs and I have stuck around for a good few years now in all likelihood because GOT is a gang of nerds.

lol You have ”geek” in your avatar and I’m recruiting members to team “correlation does not imply causation”

Any idea what happened in Carlow and Longford that created the recent spikes - nursing home outbreaks?

Carlow is a puzzling one mate, though would be in the commuter belt of Dublin and perhaps health care workers who commute, perhaps a nursing home cluster as you say. It also shares a border with five other counties one of which is Kildare which has the second highest cases in the country at the moment.

Longford shares a boarder with Cavan whose hospital had a bad outbreak a couple of week ago - i suspect that might be the reason and cases have gone over the county border, Cavan also shares a border with the North and we had problems with day trippers from the North coming over and back.

60% of those who voted on here said they wouldn't upload the NHS TTI app. Not many have voted to be fair so I'm not sure if that's an accurate reflection on GOT members, or even whether GOT membership is a fair reflection of the UK.

But looked at in isolation it doesn't look good as an effective tool to be used as part of an overall TTI strategy. Yet many people on here frequently refer to South Korea as a country we should be looking to for ideas

Yeah think we are too distrustful of government (with reason tbf) for that particular method to be used, am still hopeful that the human phone/shoe leather approach of Taiwan can pay dividends with enough resources.
