If the only restrictions being lifted on sunday are that we can go out more than once a day and also visit family I'll be dissapointed.

I walk the dog twice a day anyway & I actively avoid visiting family at the best of times never mind when in lockdown.

Any numbers for underground barbers preferably of the Turkish variety?

Absolutely gagging for a trim I'll do anything

Just cut it yourself mate and then wear a hat when you go out.

Lots of people are definitely not following the need to stay at home during lockdown this past week. The roads have been pretty busy. Like today it's probably no different to a normal day.

That’s true, though when they position themselves as the leadership it is the price they pay.

Like I said, that is undoubtedly the reality of the situation, but even had Labour won the last election, they aren't going to have a different civil service to play with. They won't be using experts from different universities to model and understand this thing. I don't recall the unions (as an example) campaigning for workplaces to be shut down en masse early in February. They campaigned to ensure people were furloughed or got sick pay or that the self-employed were covered, yes, but not that huge employers should shut to prevent infections. They've pretty much stopped entire train networks in the past due to pay and conditions, yet did no such thing to prevent the spread of the virus.

It's easy to look back and say things would have been different, but I'm just not sure a different government would have made 'that' much difference.

Problem with that is what happens when you come out of lockdown with a population who have a very low immunity percentage. They can't have strict lockdowns over and over for 2 months at a time. Every wave that hits is as lethal as the first without the immunity percentage increasing. There has to be a different method taken, maybe one where the young and healthy who are willing are allowed to go out, work, get it and get better then the next demographic group after them and so on.
The fact is that the time was wasted before the virus took hold. But if you want to come out of a lockdown and do what you suggest, you have to not only get the curve flattened right down (the UKs isn't) you have to have a massive track and trace and test system to keep on top of any new outbreak (this country can barely meet 70,000 per day testing).

And they all scurry for the bunker, rats...

Piers Morgan-

The UK Govt has banned any ministers from appearing on @gmb after a series of them made complete fools of themselves in the face of basic & important questions.
This is a pathetic & cowardly response to THEIR shameful incompetence.

Would this be an accurate explanation for why cases in the UK are not reducing despite lockdown?

Don’t get how you can call it a fake lockdown when Spain, Italy etc also allowed people to go out and have essential shops to stay open. A full and utter lockdown would have meant people saving money but at the same time starving to death as you can’t really shop when supermarkets/corner shops sell produce with short shelf life

Let's face it, in this country, as compared with Spain for example, there has been no lockdown. Not really.

Depends where you are. By us there has been a full lockdown and it has been observed by everyone. Responsible people have behaved responsibly. Then there are places, usually cities, where irresponsible people have behaved irresponsibly. The government may have thought that people would do the right thing, perhaps they should have armed the police and put the army on the streets, that would have worked, but then we would no longer be the U.K......

Is there any point to these types of comparisons between the BAME population and the 'white' population?

They are all explained by econominc and socio-cultural factors; it's nothing to do with 'ethnicity' or anything inherent to a person's ethnicity.

It seems to me that they're published and dwelt upon to try and calm and pacify the majority white population that 'that lot are getting it worse than us'.

Or perhaps if recognising that there is some genetic or even socio-cultural factors, then those at more risk can and should be removed from the front line and given additional support.....

Socio-economic disadvantage explains some, but not all, of the differences.

So what are you doing about it Dave? Given you care so much, what are you personally doing to help matters?

I'm being repsonsible and acting like a decent citizen in any way I can with family, friends and neighbours. Sorry if that's not enough for you and I should be training to become a doctor or creating a vaccine or something.

By the way, WTF are YOU doing that's positive?

Here's what I see youlre doing: providing apologies (couched as 'context') for a government that's utterly failed its own people. Maybe you should own that - your own agenda?
