This is it, unless a miracle vaccine is found soon which is unlikely - potentially we can all be expecting an autumn / winter lockdown - no sunbathing, sunny walks, cutting the grass and barbecues - I would imagine this current lockdown will be a picnic compared to this.

Certainly a scary prospect if it "returns " worse than this, which it looks quite likely that it will.

Let's face it, in this country, as compared with Spain for example, there has been no lockdown. Not really.

Agreed, but can you imagine the populous being restricted indoors between say September and February next year - further down the line - possibly no option of another furlough, the economy flatlining, businesses going to the wall every minute - it really is the stuff of nightmares.

Largely yeah. The fake lockdown in particular. Parks are absolutely heaving with people walking dogs, exercising, sitting down or casual walking. No police in sight enforcing any rules. Although there's a bit more to it than that, I think.

It has been poorly managed, no argument from me. I have said so all through, but it wouldn’t make a blind bit of difference which political party was in power, it is the CS, PHE and the NHS that are doing 99.99% of the management. The politicians have been led by the CMO and CSA and basically done as they were told. So for some to be shouting murderers etc etc is just crazy.....

What would have made a difference would have been NOT going into this after 10 years of massive underinvestment in the NHS and public services.

A full and effective lockdown in the last 2 months could have got us somewhere near the flattening out that Spain and Italy have seen. But we haven't seen that sort of full lockdown. Hundreds of planes still coming in with people not tested never mind quarantined; a failure to completely shut down the economy with loads of self employed still roaming about; no attempt to instruct people who do go out to wear face masks to stop transmission.

This government never really abandoned herd immunity.

If the only restrictions being lifted on sunday are that we can go out more than once a day and also visit family I'll be dissapointed.

I walk the dog twice a day anyway & I actively avoid visiting family at the best of times never mind when in lockdown.

Problem with that is what happens when you come out of lockdown with a population who have a very low immunity percentage. They can't have strict lockdowns over and over for 2 months at a time. Every wave that hits is as lethal as the first without the immunity percentage increasing. There has to be a different method taken, maybe one where the young and healthy who are willing are allowed to go out, work, get it and get better then the next demographic group after them and so on.
