Come on lads, it's time for the wailing an gnashing of teeth to stop.

Ancelotti said not long after arriving that he expects his players to be good in many areas rather than each being limited in their abilities. I'm hopeful that he'll be pushing for technical defenders/midfielders/attackers that have pace, are comfortable on the ball with intelligent movement and have the work rate and required to press for a full game to play in the oppositions half.

These are the key attributes a Liverpool/Man City/Leicester and even to a degree currently, the likes of Wolves are displaying in a succesful team.

We have too many players that are 'ok' at one thing, but very limited in their attributes in other areas (and way too many where I can't even pick a redeeming feature of their game).

He’s getting a very big pay day mate. Don’t think he won’t get backing, we’ll spend but I don’t think we’ll outspend the top six as we have done recently - especially with the stadium upcoming.

Carlo will back himself to improve the existing squad and find decent value in the market without spending the earth.

I think we will, he needs time and money, but if usmanov is amongst us - we have no money issues

There was always going to be a rebuilding job required to recover from Koemaggedon. I mean honestly: Bolasie Schneiderlin Siggurdson Sandro Klaasen Williams Vlasic all in and Stones Lukaku Barkley out. It’s the biggest demolition job done on any squad in premier league history given the money involved.

What is more worrying though is that the culture of the club seems to persist whichever players we bring in. The players above are undoubtedly very very poor. Lukaku Stones and Barkley weren’t poor but all were part of teams capable of giving awful performances. Richarlison Digne Mina Sidibe were not poor before they joined Everton but now seemed to have just been sucked into the existing culture of the club of apathy and regression. We’ve been saying we need to shift players out of the squad since Martinez’s second season but there’s barely a player left in the squad now from that period yet the culture has stayed the same.

Who is to say that Ancelotti and Brands don’t go and bring in 5 players we would consider to be very good only for them to have no discernible impact on Everton’s team? When players join Liverpool they get better and better, faster, stronger, less injury prone, more consistent. When they join Everton they get slower, weaker, more injury prone, and worse.

Richarlison is still a good player but he is a shadow of the player who nonchalantly curled in that goal away at Wolves in Silva’s first game. He was fast, powerful, skilful, he looked so dangerous running all sorts of lines right across the front three, aggressive in the air, and with the flair of a Brazilian winger. He looked a cut above every player in our team. Now if he takes more than two touches he usually loses possession. His ice seems to have gone, his finishing composure is non existent. Apart from being good at getting into the right positions to put the ball in the net he’s virtually useless on any other aspect of play. Where’s the player who went away to Brazil and curled in a debut brace like it was nothing to him?

Digne has regressed from being the premier league’s best left back to perhaps not even being Everton’s best left back behind a player that wasn’t good enough 3 seasons ago.

Sidibe looked like a French international when he joined us, fast strong, good on the ball, now he looks like a complete donkey.

Where is the Bernard who slalomed past the Leicester defence? Who gave Alexander Arnold the run around at Anfield? He’s making Leon Osman look like Iniesta now.

Yerry Mina, Colombian World Cup icon who could turn up half fit away at Stamford Bridge and Anfield and still be the best player on the pitch, dominant in the air, good on the deck with both feet, strong in the tackle, now looks like a complete and utter carthorse who couldn’t even get the ball under control at any point.

These were good players. Cenk Tosun was a good player. He’s still a good player for Turkey, he scored regularly at Champions league level for Besiktas, he looks like a pub team player for us.

The only players I would say have improved at Everton since Martinez left are Idrissa Gueye, Mason Holgate and Calvert Lewin. That’s a terrible ratio, three players out of how many that have passed through these squads recently.

I hope this turns around under Ancelotti and finally with a bit of world class coaching these players can actually improve, but if the cancerous core of the issues at this club are not dealt with then Ancelotti can buy who he wants and put them out in whatever formation and whatever instructions he likes and they will continue to be completely hopeless.

I know we disagree on this point but I think talent wise Brands has recruited well. When these players came in everyone was excited at names like Mina Gomes Digne Bernard Kean. What Brands needs to sort out is why Everton have the worst coaching standards in the premier league.

Great post. Said it before Ancellotti's job is to.get these super fit like klopp did when he arrived. Get the core of players he wants to keep Richy DCL holgate etc work with them.make them better. Get young gifted players in who can control a ball pass and move and can have a shot. Desparate for a ball playing cm who can pass and has physical strength and a goal scoring attacker.

Agree with a lot of your points but you miss out the loser who started this particular slide.... Martinez..but 72 points.Pulled the wool over everyones' eyes and got away with murder...never forgive him.

I’m no fan of Martinez at all and I believe he destroyed the squad Moyes left. If Koeman delivered the fatal wound then Martinez certainly beat the patient up first.

I think he mainly did that through buying awful players. Kone Alcaraz Cleverley Atsu Mcgeady Robles were just trash. Plus he was tactically very poor selecting the wrong players in the wrong positions in the wrong formations time and time again.

What he could at least do though was coach players. Lukaku played the best football of his entire career under him. Stones went from a kid to England international, Deulofeu got better, Barkley got better. Arguably McCarthy and Besic improved whenever they got themselves fit.

Since Martinez left barely any players have improved through the coaching at the club and most have regressed. That’s extremely worrying given that four different managers have all deffo through in that time with different coaching staff.

If Ancelotti also fails over the king term then it absolutely confirms that the manager is not the problem at Everton. There’s an issue a layer below that in the infrastructure of the club, something fundamental that needs to be changed before any manager has success because if Ancelotti can’t get players playing at an ok level then no one is going to be able to. We can’t get better than him. There’s no other way to go, he’s in the top band of worlds best managers. If he fails we may as well pack the club up.

It was another loss to a decent bunch of Liverpool players with a pretty untalented Everton team.

This is what happens with the Everton team erected in the last 3 seasons or so with too much cash. This is the Zombie Everton lingering on.

Let's hand Carlo the tools to transform us and get these players out and his own better quality players in.

I dont even consider this ground zero. That happened weeks ago at Anfield with that 5-2 mauling. Decisions were taken then which ended up with us having a genius manager in our dugout. As long as he's backed, he'll get us our position and status back in a couple of seasons.

Five or six of Ancelotti type players in to add to a small handful of the current lot and we'll be a different proposition next season. It's going to get better. Much, much better.
I don't often agree with @davek. but in this case he is absolutely correct. We have the nucleus of a good team. I trust Ancelloti to move us forward.

OP is an excellent take and is 100% true.
Carlo is probably in the top 1% of all time managers, let him do his thing and we will see an Everton reborn.

This truly explains the mentality of the players whom have hit rock bottom losing to kids. Carlo scratching his head over this lot. Dark days but not relegation fodder just yet. We need to keep things simple and survive and then thrive with astute coaching and key additions in the summer. Mainly the whole midfield to be replaced.

Thanks. A much need dose of realism and a tonic to the stupor delivered today. Thanks again mate.;)

Could have done without this game, was a hiding to nothing especially if you want to convince other clubs to take some of our squad off us and their bloated pay cheques.

Was half banking on January desperation to take one or two.
