Beckford's scoring record

I try to avoid snap judgements generally coz players have proved me wrong to often in the past and can't remember if I commented on Beckford at the start of his Everton Carreer. You could certainly see he looked off the pace at first but that's natural and no reason to write any player off. Fact is, It's hard enough to judge a player after a season or two (look at Forlan. How many people thought he was a world class striker while he was at Utd? How many people do now?) let alone half a season. Beckford's done well enough for his first season in the top flight. I hope he can get even better. As for his goals often being mis hits, it could be a fair point. However that's not necessarily a bad thing. He seems to have an instinct for finding or making a yard of space for himself and the rest is often just a case of confidence.

He was very poor at the start of the season but maybe just adjusting- being a striker is all about confidence and if he is feeling confidentthen he will find that extra yard of pace or deadlier finishing abilities.

He looks pretty good in a two but average as a loner.

made up for Beckford. the media will eat their words (no they wont), some have tried to take the 1st goal off him when it hit Bramble on its way into the net ffs and the comments made about the scuffed 2nd one - Ian Rush scored about 2 thousand mis-hit scuffs off his neck bless him but he was given respect by dem pundits, i think Beckford will have to earn their grudging respect with a lot more goals but who cares about the detractors- well in lad

Remember that Andy Cole needed about 6 chances to score a goal, but still fired United to the top of the game. Becks will probably never be the most clinical of finishers, but we'll create far more chances with him in the side than out of it.

Its good for the soul for one or two posters on here - to be reminded of what they said.

Especially when trash talking about Everton, Moylez, Beckford and the like.

But the key thing is, I do think there is room for improvement in Beckford. He's half way to where I think Moyes can get him.

His movement is superb. He grafted in the Sunderland game. If he's making challenges, making passes to his partner and bringing midifielders in, if he continues his movement and keeps finding the net he could be proper ace for us.

He works well with Saha because of Saha's quality on the ball (when he's not being ball greedy).

Also think he was helped by a more confident and aggressive looking Arteta yesterday.

I've never had a problem with him, and always thought he could develop into a Premier League level striker. People seem to have a clouded view of what a Premier League striker is. Look at Darren Bent, for example, hardly a silky, well rounded forward, yet he's been a massive success at this level. He relies on pace, intelligent movement and finishing ability. Beckford has similar attributes, so who knows what he could develop into, given gametime and experience.

Always said hes a goal scorer and no mistake - he will always score goals - we havent had a player like him since Linekar.

Lets not get carried away Neiler, hes a long way away from being Gary Lineker. Hes showing promise in the 2nd half of the season but lets not get carried away with is 6 goals eh..

Isn't it 8 goals? For someone who was written off as soon as he got here, I wouldn't say the praise is over the top. He's made a huge step up, and the return he's giving us is excellent. I think Neiler's talking about his style more than anything, he is different to what we have, and similar to Lineker the way he goes about things, playing off the last defender and looking to finish.

We haven't had that kind of movement in front of goal since AJ was in his peak, which lets face it, was Autumn 2006.

See the bit yesterday where he Gareth Bale'd one of their centre halfs? Lovely.

I really really like him, definitely needs to operate in a front 2 though.

Beckford in 4-4-2 = Good Beckford

Beckford in 4-5-1 = Not so good Beckford.

How many strikers have come up from League One and did what he has? Ace signing. Was intially worried b/c there were rumors he was lazy at times. Haven't seen any of it.

I think he was just bored with league one. Let's be honest, he really is too good for the third tier. And he's starting to prove that he's good enough for the prem.

You're right though. As many of us (myself included) have said, he needs a strike partner. He is that kind of player. Him and Saha are a lethal combo -- producing 5 goals between them in their last 90 minutes playing together (last 15 mins of Blackpool game; Saha x2, Beckford x1 and then Beckford x2 for the 70 odd minutes they played together yesterday) -- they give each other space and both offer something different, whilst complementing each other.
