A Case for the Defence

If you follow that through though you could argue Barca play like Wigan. Whether it's been done effectively is mainly down to the quality on show and we have enough of that. At the moment results aren't reflecting performance. How much of that is down to the manager I've really no idea. I just don't believe it all is, or that we can exclude the quality he's bought in or had faith in from the argument about whether to persevere.
Over 18 months results do reflect performance.
You can't just send a team out hoping they get lucky at the back, you have to drill the defensive side of the game into them.
We have great players so the blame lies with the manager.
4 home wins in 9 months is not down to bad luck or dodgy catering its down to a clueless manager who is lost mate

I agree with the FA cup part we win the weekend he has to see out the semi. I don't think he will be sacked either way though. As much as I don't think he is the man to take us forward.

Oddly despite the table readings, no, we were not in a better position in 2012, we had worse players, smaller budget, cheaper players, and no Billionaire. So I agree with your last thing.

But we were solid on the pitch and put in much better performances than anythin we have served up in two seasons of the real Martinez.

Unfortunately arguing we are in a better position now than then just makes Martinez look worse, if results mean anything in football.
Only won 4 away from home ....manager should be sacked for that , abysmal

I did read it. Didn't agree with it but that statement has me confused. You may think building a good team isn't enough but it's clearly a very big plus point
I didn't say it wasn't a plus point. I just don't think it matters loads when he can't use it effectively, as evidenced by us being 12th.

Nobody is denying that the defence at home needs to improve but every problem is down to a mixture of reasons and every problem can get sorted overnight. I know some people have made their minds up but I haven't so looking at current league positions won't effect that for now.

He has nearly had 3 years with us mate and we are going backwards with the problems not getting sorted.
The bloke is lost.

That's kind of my point though Jay. Nobody could argue that our amount of wins or table position is acceptable in the long run. But when you see a lot of pundits come out baffled, asking how Martinez isn't under a lens and postulating that if it was another team he would have been sacked, I think the answer to why he hasn't been is obvious.

Our team is ludicrously talented, worth an unbelievable amount in today's market and by all rights should be fighting for top 4. Results are forcing some to conclude that Martinez has nothing to do with that, but I think it is a glaring fact that his ability to scout and develop players has put us in a great long term position, and any coach walking in to our setup now won't believe his own luck.

Your right about him spotting a player and maybe thats where his future lies.

He's got to convince people that he can turn good performances into good results. And there's people who need more convincing than others. And some who have made their mind up. Can't really think what to say if you've made your mind up except all of us can be wrong and it doesn't really matter. What matters is the next game and that we all want to win it more than be right

Of course we want to win thats what this is all about,we don't win enough games with a squad that should be hunting top 4.
We will have to wait and see my friend i am just so happy tonight that our future is out of lying bill's hands

Well I hope he's there with us all enjoying it when we do turn it all round

I agree also, he has very good attributes in that regard and our squad is great but maybe we need a Moyes/Martinez hybrid human. A diluted Crunchy Bar looking guy saying phenomenal all the time in a Scottish accent.
