Welcome back Wayne
Reporting doesn’t make the facts though, I think we’ve all seen that before . Rather than that what I propose is that the police investigate it , in a manner similar to there doing at the moment . Seems fair to me .
The case we’ve mentioned above where the schizophrenic was acquitted absolutely needed to be tried before a court , from what I’ve seen of it and I’d suspect at the time the charging decision would have driven the daily mail comments section into a rage.
Tony Martin is still held up as some kind of bastion of the right to defend your home defeat the conviction , the circumstances, the illegally held shotgun , previously discharging a weapon at others , extreme political ideology bordering on hate , the doubt over previous burglaries and on and on. What I’m saying is that the matters have to be investigated dispassionately by the correct authorities and in the correct manner and it seems despite my concerns with them generally the police seem best suited for this job. The problem is when individuals don’t do their job properly.
You talk about misery and hell of the legal process well I know . Admittedly it was a long time ago and I wasn’t 78 but I’ve been the ‘have a go’ individual who did the right thing and ended up in court in not completely disimilar circumstances and it’s horrendous. That said it doesn’t mean you don’t believe in the system as a whole.
I have no knowledge of the first case you quote. The Tony Martin case, while I did sympathise with the man, absolutely should have gone to court as he deliberately set out to do what eventually happened. But I’m not sure that this is the case in this latest tragedy. The ‘system’ needs looking at if it brings unnecessary anguish to the innocent.....
