Would you sell Jelavic?

I don't believe the saying that Moyes ruined strikers at all, he just makes them do more defensive work and help the team, it why we are so hard to beat.

He just needs to get a few to get his confidence back.

This has got to be the worst cliché in football.

Jelavic' goals this season.

Aston Villa - 25th August.
Southampton x 2 - 29th September.
Wigan - 6th October.
Sunderland - 10th November.
Tottenham - 9th December.
Cheltenham - 7th January.
Man City - 16th March.

The early knee-against-the-post injury against Newcastle kept him out for 2-3 games but the irregularity of those goals is appalling, the longest stretch being just over 3 months before he nicked a deflection of Gael Clichy...if he "needed a few" to get his confidence back then why did he take over a month of starts to extend on his Saints/Wigan run?

For a team apparently chasing European qualification you should be questioning your centre mids for such a patchy goal scoring record, let alone your best striker.

I don't know whether it's him wanting a raise or Moyes management, but he's the polar opposite of what I saw last season, he's frankly an embarassment to watch and we can't afford to have underachievers hanging around the club in the hope that they'll hit some form.

dont think its a case of second season syndrome, its a case of being one dimensional and not being able to adapt your game.
his main problem being he has no pace, his positinoal game has been quite good when he gets in the box and doesent drift out wide, but the old step back create space and shoot is easy to defend against especially if you try that every single time.

Throw in the teams inability to play a first time ball through and you're left with very little to give the bloke, Gibson and Pienaar seemed to nail this last season with ease and they've stuggled to do the same this time around.

There's been a few people suggesting the problem is with Moyes rather than with Jelavic himself. This seems to be a recurring theme with all of Moyes' strikers (Yakubu?). None of them seem to be able to perform after their first season Would a new manager put a new lease of life into him?

It is a recurring theme mate, there's no doubt about it.

We're a famously close knit and settled squad with very little money to overhaul players, take a starting XI from our UEFA Cup run in 2007/8 and you'll find 8 of the 11 starting most games this season (Howard, Baines, Jagielka, Hibbert, Neville, Osman, Pienaar, Anichebe).

On my last count we've had 25-30 players play as a centre forward for us under Moyes tenure, for a small team reliant on the same players (like above) to have that many strikers is alarming, especially when noting the formation we've used over the past decade.

25 strikers/1 manager...something's gotta give.

Odds are in favour of Moyes not getting the best out of what he's had.

AND STOP PUTTING EVERY MAN BACK FOR CORNERS FFS.

Jelavic is a natural goalscorer. Even this season he's getting in the hot positions, he's just lacking confidence.

He's not the best footballer, that's why the top top teams haven't been in for him. But as we all know, he only needs 1 touch. I think a new manager will give him a new boost of confidence.

But as we all know, he only needs 1 touch. .

To do this, yeah...

Problem is he gets nervous if he doesn't score right away and starts occupying the channels and tracking back instead of being braver and perhaps a bit smarter with his play. I'm sorry to see this happen to him. It's surprising though that his confidence is so fragile. He might be the type who needs an arm around the shoulder. Moyes, why you no hug Jelavic?

That's what's so frustrating, there was an article/interview last season where a player asked Jelavic if he was okay after he missed a sitter vs Swansea, his response was "why are you talking to me? I will score the next one."

The f*cks happened there, then?

There was another interview after last season where he was asked how he practices in order to have such a great first touch finish. His response was basically, I do not think about it, I just do it.

He must be thinking about it now.

Jelavic is not a bad player. He's class. No confidence and bad form ruined his season. Bad players don't do what he did during the second half of last season and during a couple of the early games this season. Maybe a new manager will get him back to form.

I just want to know WHATS happened to him. He's a completely different player. I still think under a new manager he'll come good, but i just don't understand how this transformation from cool calm finisher into a bit of a joke figure happened.
