Except the bullish people have been shown to be absolutely 100% correct about the way things would pan out, while those panicking have been shown to have misjudged the situation to such an extent that a team they were convinced was the worst in the league has managed to drop no lower than 11th over a 20 game period, even under a manager that most of them want sacking for being useless. Which ones were ridiculous again?

They haven't been shown to be correct at all

We were definitely in trouble more than once this season, but we got out of it because the actions the "bed wetters" said needed to be taken were taken

Doesn't mean it NEEDED to be Allardyce, but an experienced manager who could get us grinding out points definitely was required, and we've survived as consequence

The realists had it spot on

Stick that on the pinned post on the forum for me.

Summed up perfectly.

Also... everyone holds that West Ham game up as a saving grace and turning point of the whole season. A game that every pins and argument against for best performance, league position, reason for a manager etc etc.

Fundementally it was a must win game against a side who were in as much of a mire as we were and Rooney turned up. A complete one off game that hinged on not conceding a penalty in the 2nd half.

yup, that pickford save was crucial

If the club doesn't make some decisive management / squad decisions at the end of the season ...were in danger of getting relegated next year no matter who the manager is next season.

I worry about this summer, because there aren’t many managers about or available.
In other years you could probably pick about 5 or 6 who are available and fans would realistically pick from, all I have heard recently is Fonseca and no one else. We could end up with an older manager looking for a payday or an unproven big named ex player looking for a start in the game.

It’s scary to think that this time next year we may have worse than Allardyce.

Everyone in football knew this was a half season appointment, even Allardyce. After Martin O'Neill turned down the half season the club went back to Allardyce. I think he thought he was in a position of strength after that but he really wasnt.

Nice to see the Merson sticking up for middle aged white English managers though.

They have though, and to suggest otherwise is simply an unwillingness to accept you misread the situation. We’re as close to 6th as 18th, despite not having won for 3 games, and at no point since the first week of December have we had a buffer of less than 6 teams between us and the drop. We could have lost EVERY SINGLE away game this season and still be outside the relegation zone.

Don’t get me wrong, i’m Not saying that there was no reason to ever be concerned, simply that saying it’s ‘ridiculous’ that so many people expected us to have enough to stay out of real trouble is the very definition of ridiculous, seeing as, you know, it’s exactly what actually happened and that.

It only happened because a change was made at a critical moment, a change the bulls said didn't need to be made

Again, it's all well and good now to say everything was always fine, but it wasn't

It'd be nice if those people could hold their hands up and say "yup, we had to make that managerial change, you guys were right to notice the precarious situation we were in"

If the new manager hadn't been a gravy guzzling fat tit then they probably would

You're just a little ray of sunshine aren't you...

C'est impossible! Non?

I’m not saying it was always fine. Christ, it’s not even fine now.

The facts suggest you’re wrong though. Our points per game ratio and our home record prior to the change both suggest that we would have stayed up regardless. The only reason anyone could ever have for thinking we were going down this season was a ‘gut feeling’ or the old ‘Everton that’ mentality of assuming the worst.

It was a possibility yes, but always a remote one. Pretty much the same as us finishing 6th, hence us being equidistant between the 2.

Despite getting a flucky draw against the RS at Anfield, what has he done that Unsworth or another manager wouldn't? he won our home games against the lesser sides, as i'd of expect Unsworth to had won. I also think Koeman would of as well. FF is a very toxic atmosphere even today.
We been hammered by City, Arsenal, Spurs and Utd. The footballs the worse i think I've ever seen it, he shipped off our best youngester and now talking about selling him. He had a chance to shine and get us 7th and he reverted to type
