Not what the mericans are saying. They are claiming the attack was against a spec ops base inside Jordan (Rukban).

This is a view of the base close to the border (you can see the Blackhawk heli’s and drones). It is used by both US and Jordanian forces engaged in the campaign against ISIS.

I can see why Jordan does not want to disclose any knowledge of this base but it’s there and operational.

That really should be what would be the smart and what would be the stupid next move.

He'll probably do the stupid - all manner of stupid people in both US parties, the commentariat and especially his "number one ally" (who openly urinates in his chips) are demanding that he do something stupid as a matter of urgency - but we as a planet urgently need him to do the smart one.

The smart move here would be to take the steam out of the anti-US opposition in the region, in the short term by forcing through a peace deal and in the medium term by drawing down the remaining bases in Iraq and Syria whilst boosting presence in the rest of the region. In the long term they need to further push on with the conversion away from oil and gas which is after all what is going to ruin the Iranian (and the Russian) economies.
