I don't watch games all that often, but those I have suggest we're crying out for a pivot style player. I'm not too worried about us breaking up opposition attacks, but we're not great at keeping the ball. Holgate just isn't technically good enough to do that role, so you're having to have two players to perform what would ideally be one person's job.

Yeah I agree, Holgate has been superb, he has slotted in at midfield and done a job, but long term hes defo not the answer in midfield.

Its miserable at the moment as we need so many positions filling.

Upgrade on Keeper, we might get lucky in the summer and and use the money on a new Keeper.

Right back coleman sib are not good enough

Sell Keane and get a new CB in

The biggest need for me is a proper box to box player to partner gomes. This will be expensive.

Rw and Lw

Could do with proper quality but the right is more needed.

So we could sell the following with no problem

Pickford
Keane
Walcott.

Would be happy if we could get 55 million from those 3.

Struggle to sell
Sigurðsson
Schneiderlin

We really need these two off the books this summer.

It's not possible to sell all the deadwood and bring in around 6 new players.

You make it sound so easy!! Lol

Agree with the sentiment though, we’ve cleared a lot of the nonsense but there is so much more to deal with still.

We will probably add 4 or 5 during the summer but more importantly we have players like Naisse, Martina, Baines, Stelenkburg out of contract and lads like garbutt etc in u23s that will be gone too ! Sidibe we can decide to buy ot not and if offering Baines an extension it should'nt be on the 65 grand a week his on now !
Regarding Baines wages @ £65,000 per week, why would he be on those wages, he was given a one year extension at the end of last season, I can’t believe it was given with the same wages he was already on, if it was he’s a very, very lucky man, and we have stupid people giving contracts out. I have always liked Leighton has a player but his best days have passed.

If he’s happy to sit about as a back up for peanuts I’d keep him, if not he’s been a magnificent player for us.

Doesn’t pay to make seismic changes. Max 2-3 high quality players to assimilate into the team bearing in mind the Euros and lack of preseason

Getting rid of the dross would feel like a fresh start too

I can see Gylfi, Walcott and Schnederlin going for money this summer with their contract situations.

The problem will be if they would all be willing to take a big wage cut mate. Sigurdsson £100k a week, Schneiderlin £100k a week, Walcott £100k a week, there is no way anyone of them would be getting anywhere near those wages if someone came in for them.

With Walcott and Schneiderlin only having a year left on there contracts at the end of the season, we might offer to pay the difference in any decreased wages for the first year of there contract.

They'd both get an 'ok' fee I'd guess if there'd be anyone willing to take them.

The answer is no, unless an awful lot of wages are unloaded to balance things a bit. Our squad is very big and needs severe pruning.

I don't think we can afford to let too many leave the squad, we simply could not afford to replace them all. As you say it is unlikely that we would get any decent money for Keane, Walcott, Schneiderlin or Sigurdsson.
I think that of those mentioned above only Schneiderlin may be allowed to leave if somebody is prepared to pay his wages but not pay a fee.

I think the manager will probably like to keep the majority of his current squad together and add maybe three or four new faces at most.
Keane, Walcott and Sigurdsson would be useful as squad members for at least another season.

We may be able to get some money for Tosun, Besic,Kenny (if he is not being brought back) but it is hard to see huge money being earned. Bolasie has had a good season, Sandro is doing alright as well and if we could those off the payroll permanently together with those out of contract anyway it would give us a lot of capacity for extra wages.

We may well see Gibson, Kenny, Gordon and maybe Adeniran as full members of the squad next season and they would allow the manager to focus on areas that most need attention... centre midfield.

Trying not to think about this because the reality is we do need a massive summer BUT getting europe will be a huge deal in making it possible...

I think best case is we get them all out on season-long loans, get a loan fee and then some contributions towards some/all of their wages.
