Why do people equate spending big to being successful ? It’s not about spending big, it’s about spending on the right players. It matters not if a player costs 50 million or 5 million if he does the job you require of him. Spending loads might get success agreed but not always.

Agree, but surely if we’re limited to spending like £50m or something, then it’s gonna be difficult to achieve things given the areas of our squad that need improving.

Transfers are so much easier in the summer, there's so much value for money and no need to panic buy, but I can personally see Moshiri keeping his powder dry for summer 2021. The focus this summer should be on reducing the squad and making ourselves weaker, so that we can really, really spend in summer 2021.

I hear what your saying but not every player starts out at 30 million .... I remember a certain right back we picked up years ago for 60k, them types of players are out there if the scouting is good enough.

I’m not even sure 70mil is big nowadays, apparently that’ll barely get you a Zaha!

If we can shift some of our wage leeches like Tosun, Snide, Niasse, Martina, Sigurdsson we will almost certainly make a couple of marquee signings. Perfect window sees about 8 out and 4 top quality in.

This is a fantastic post. Sensibility is the way to go

I don't think we need to spend big, but spend "smart".

We've got a lot of lads in the team who are actually half decent, and we're not that far off being alright.

We've got Niasse, Baines, Martina, Stekelenberg all ending their contracts. Which will likely be a minimum of 3 off the books.
Then you've got the potential players we could let go....

Probably from a list of Sigurdsson, Schneiderlin, Tosun, Walcott, Coleman, Bolasie and hopefully Sandro who are all earning approx £80k+ per week. Then then fringe players like Dowell, Tarashaj, Kenny, Besic, Garbutt, Pennington and we're probably going to be tipping £600k a week saved, and that's where we can actually push on then.

Walsh and Koeman set us back years with long, expensive contracts, but they will slowly cease in the coming 18 months.

But i do think we'll have a high turnover. I'm glad we haven't spend in January, as we may still push for europe with Ancelotti, and it gives him ample time to assess the team and decide who is good enough. So i think 8-9 out, 4-5 in, and i'm excited.

Yes but we will have to make some tactical sales and keep some high-earners too because selling them could affect the FFP in a negative way even if it seems getting a fee should make FFP better. I think Ancelotti said the normal things about Richarlison yesterday, our defenders and even DCL, but he has already talked about there being some offers you shouldn't refuse. The home-grown factor is a big one too, we will be looking for at least 2 players who r 21+ but were trained for 3 years plus before 21, at an FA club.
