We need to buy starters, which means we will have to fork out a lot of money for each position we require. I’d rather us buy 2 each window for the next few, than us try and do it all in 1, if it meant getting better quality in.
But no signing is guaranteed to be successful. If Alex Ferguson signed 2 players per summer he would still get plenty of duds.

If we want to push for 6th then 4th we need many quality players.

We have bought 2 champions league class players in the last 6 years (Lukaku and Richarlison). They cost big money but they were already proven in this league and were young. We have/will make money on them,

We need to spend big on top 6 class players and not the 20/30 million on just about prem class fillers like we have been for years if we will remain mid table dog dirt.

I think if you look at the players out of contract:
BAINES
MARTINA
STEKLENBERG
SIDIBE
NIASSE
TARASHAJ
GARBUTT

We will be freeing up a lot of money in terms of wages. But also we will need a new LB, RB and GK. Add that to the fact we need a RW plus a CF and a CB. That's 6 players. We won't get all that in and we may even extend Baines for one more year and sign Sidibe as £13m for a Premier league player is cheap. There is also a list of players that the club probably want to sell, but we will have to see if we can get money in for them. I think if we mange to get into Europe we may have a little more to spend. If we don't spend a decent amount with all those players going, people will riot.

Its miserable at the moment as we need so many positions filling.

Upgrade on Keeper, we might get lucky in the summer and and use the money on a new Keeper.

Right back coleman sib are not good enough

Sell Keane and get a new CB in

The biggest need for me is a proper box to box player to partner gomes. This will be expensive.

Rw and Lw

Could do with proper quality but the right is more needed.

So we could sell the following with no problem

Pickford
Keane
Walcott.

Would be happy if we could get 55 million from those 3.

Struggle to sell
Sigurðsson
Schneiderlin

We really need these two off the books this summer.

It's not possible to sell all the deadwood and bring in around 6 new players.

If you look at our stats for this year, we've primarily relied upon 17 players this season (18 if you count Gomes, but he's only made 9 appearances). Okay, Gbamin will presumably be added to that, but it doesn't suggest we have a great deal of depth, even with players who are widely believed to be subpar, such as Walcott and Schneiderlin.

It seems almost a perpetual process of mass change with the squad, but the stats do clearly show that while we have a big squad in terms of numbers, many of them really are very poor. Sidibe is only on loan, so not sure if he's going to be signed permanently or not, and not sure if Baines will get another year, but the squad is pretty short on both quality and quantity imo.

I don't see us having the "mass change" of 10 new players people talk about. If we release; Baines, Steklenburg and Niasse and get 3 replacements for them that will be in the first team squad and sign Sidibe, that would be quite a big change. If we were to be able to also get in a 4th CB and move schniederlin on. I think that would be a good summer window.
After that I think it would depend on who we can sell, the players out on loan like; Tosun, Sandro and Bolasie. Then we might see another striker. But I wouldn't have though we would change more than 5 in the first team squad in one window.
As you said we have only used 18 players, so to add 5 new faces would be huge.

We'll see I suppose. The midfield has been a real weak point this season, and if they stay, we need to get much more out of Sig, Iwobi and Walcott. 5 goals in over 60 games between them is a woeful return.

We have to be clever but I do believe we need some staff quality in regards to the final ball, where we add that is up to Carlo.

Many CM’s about who could play in a two and pick that final ball we crave?

I agree, hopefully Gomes will be back and we will see what Gbamin can do. I actually quite like Holgate as DM as well, I'm not sure if Iwobi can play centrally in a 2? Possibly at home or if we are chasing the game

Im sure there are, but how many actually play in a proper 2 these days?

Most teams play 4231 or even 433.

The problem will be finding an 8 or a 6 that can pick a pass, those players are on the main 10s.

Im not saying there arent loads out there at all, but its a tough ask.

I don't watch games all that often, but those I have suggest we're crying out for a pivot style player. I'm not too worried about us breaking up opposition attacks, but we're not great at keeping the ball. Holgate just isn't technically good enough to do that role, so you're having to have two players to perform what would ideally be one person's job.

If rumours are to be believed I would love us to sign the Lille CB Gabriel , Cruz from River Plate and Everton Soares , probably cost about £80M and all 23 or under.
