The answer is no, unless an awful lot of wages are unloaded to balance things a bit. Our squad is very big and needs severe pruning.
We have a lot of players on our books, but at the same time we do not have a big squad of players that are wanted.. that is our problem.

I think that after this summer that problem may well be almost entirely washed out.

The problem will be if they would all be willing to take a big wage cut mate. Sigurdsson £100k a week, Schneiderlin £100k a week, Walcott £100k a week, there is no way anyone of them would be getting anywhere near those wages if someone came in for them.

True mate, it will come down to numbers of course, i suppose if someone comes along and offers them a 3-4 year contract and that security, they have a decision to make even at a reduced wage. That would be our hope i would imagine.

I'm hopeful that Ancelotti's presence is an indicator that there'll be major rebuilding, but I won't be holding my breath.

With only Niasse and Martina (who doesn't earn much) out of contract, and considering the club's inability to find suitors for the rest of the overpaid crap, I wouldn't be surprised to see them spend the summer hiding behind FFP.

Baines and Stekelenberg as well, plus players going into the last year of their contract may consider a drop in pay to secure a longer contract elsewhere. I suspect our squad next season will look a whole lot better.

You aren't allowing for Brexit, the inevitable no deal, and consequent economic collapse, resulting in large numbers of Mafia hitmen becoming affordable to the club. The unfortunate number of fatal 'accidents' to underperforming, high-salary, players will release funds for quality purchases. How can anyone not see this????

One slight problem with your plan.
The mafia hitmen will not be allowed into the country after Brexit.
So unless we get Europe we will not employ hitmen
Brexit means Brexit
We want our blue passports......................................................................................... and salt

I don't see us having the "mass change" of 10 new players people talk about. If we release; Baines, Steklenburg and Niasse and get 3 replacements for them that will be in the first team squad and sign Sidibe, that would be quite a big change. If we were to be able to also get in a 4th CB and move schniederlin on. I think that would be a good summer window.
After that I think it would depend on who we can sell, the players out on loan like; Tosun, Sandro and Bolasie. Then we might see another striker. But I wouldn't have though we would change more than 5 in the first team squad in one window.
As you said we have only used 18 players, so to add 5 new faces would be huge.
I can see them wanting more out the door personally. Keane? Siggurdsson? Maybe even Walcott. They need to get some the older players on big wages out the club.

If you believe the rumours. The club are looking at RB,CB, CM. And a Right sided forward.
Maybe even 2 centre midfielders. We can’t have another season, where a couple of injuries and we are left with Davies and Delph playing a number of games together. Also Gbamin is still got to be s bit of a unknown at prem level and may take a while to settle in.

8 in. 5 out. That's my reckoning
Think we will see the end of Keane, Gylfi and Walcott personally. Tosun too

5 Players will cost a minimum of 150 m allowing that the RB,CM and RW will be starters
Even allowing the other CM and striker being squad players.
I dont think we can afford that much unless we sell quite a few ,
We would like to sell 7-8 players I would think but I can not see any buyers,
Prefer to identify 2-3 key positions ,RB,RW and CM and spend whatever we have on guaranteed starters.

I think Ancelotti will have money to spend and quite a lot. It’s up to the club to work there way around ffp.
And it looks like they are already making plans for that

I think if you look at the players out of contract:
BAINES
MARTINA
STEKLENBERG
SIDIBE
NIASSE
TARASHAJ
GARBUTT

We will be freeing up a lot of money in terms of wages. But also we will need a new LB, RB and GK. Add that to the fact we need a RW plus a CF and a CB. That's 6 players. We won't get all that in and we may even extend Baines for one more year and sign Sidibe as £13m for a Premier league player is cheap. There is also a list of players that the club probably want to sell, but we will have to see if we can get money in for them. I think if we mange to get into Europe we may have a little more to spend. If we don't spend a decent amount with all those players going, people will riot.

Thing is our wage bill is to high and releasing those players and then spending them wages again puts us back in the same situation although hopefully with a couple of decent players extra. Will be hard but shifting bolasie, Walcott, Morgan, siggy, sandro would really see us able to recruit decent players and reduce the wage bill. Can add Keane to that list too, any “ first team “player that’s not good enough should be moved on as they aren’t the standard and draining the most wage. Tough task but that’s what we need, hopefully with some of them in their last year they will love but if money is their main priority, they will probably see out their contracts and move on a bosman

I think it's just too hard to do in one window. I think we should focus on replacing the ones that are definately going on a free, some of them are not really in the squad anyway, like Steklenburg, Niasse and Martina so arguably you could say that we may not need a direct replacement and the wages can be used elsewhere. Walcott, Morgan, Keane and Sigurdsson will probably stay, but hopefully we will have a new CB, Gomes and Gbamin will be fit, so they will be in the 2nd string. Players on big wages, like Bolasie and Sandro will go back on loan because no one wants to take them long term.

Even shifting a couple of those first team players will help, I agree doing it in one window is probably hoping for to much.
