When will we start taking Victor seriously?

His upturn in form isn't a recent thing, he has been very good for about a year now, and his minutes to goal ratio is testament to that.

And I don't know about anyone else, but having a striker who 'only scores goals' is fine by me.

I think he is what we need sometimes, a big strong lad upfront, was glad when he came on yesterday as we needed that strength up top, saying that though Jelavic did well upfront holding the ball up.

For me, he is a great 20-30 minute player at the moment, his energy levels have picked up. However where I sit in the lower gwladys he always seems to get a lot of stick.

Yea he's been doing it for almost a year now and having another Cahill in the side won't bother me. in 2011-12 he had 5 in 12 appearences and this year he has 5 in 12 appearances. Osman, Pinnear Baines etal are good enough to get it into the box so he doesn't need to be anywhere else. He also hasn't had much game exp due to injuries and being put on the LW/RW the past couple years either.

I'm starting to notice that teams are starting to double him now. I remember the Wigan game, yea he didn't have a great game but Wigan was absolutely terrified of him. Just his presence opened up space for others.

For those wondering why he is not universally loved..
His overall record is as follows:
Before this season... 10 goals in 7 seasons.. or 100 games... that's 1 in 10. And those goals were all he did for nearly all of those games. Apart from sulk anyway.
This season he has improved immessurably to point of being decent though and I am impressed.

He'd have 7 Ballon D'Or's if seasons only lasted 6 games and had 4 week breaks in between each game.

His goals to minutes ratio is 1 goal every 285 minutes. That is closer to 1 in 4 which isn't world beating but 16 goals in 114 league appearances doesn't make him look good mind but 70 of them were off the bench and a lot of that time he was recovering from injury and just to add a bit of perspective Big Dunc's record was a goal every 259 minutes over his premiership career.

I know Dunc's was a legend and was inspirational and we have a much better tam than we did for a lot of hic career but Vic is improving and if he keeps it up he can carry on doing a job for us. Who knows he may be a late bloomer when it comes to fulfilling potential.c I mean Luca Toni only started doing well in Seria A when he was 26/27. Although he was decent in seria B from a round Vics age.

That sounds like a list of excuses right there for an abysmal record to be honest and on the money he is on, he shouldn't need them.. but I hope your right about the late bloomer because the Vic of this year is the first that I have watched that hasn't made me want to punch something cute and fluffy in the face whenever he plays.
As for Dunc.. the difference is that Dunc held the ball up and bought others into play, ran and fought every game.. Anichebe often wondered around falling over and giving up. Some of his performances have been the worst I have ever seen in an Everton shirt but they seem to be forgotten because he has scored a few goals this season.

I loved Dunc and agree with you on that side of it. I must agree that I have been disappointed with his sulking but his attitude seems to be improving(actually celebrating goals). Only time will tell mate.

Lets hope mate. Would be great to have a free prolific striker on our books.

Agree with everyone else, he's been on good form for a good year.

Just needs to keep fit and keep it up.
He`s been like a new signing!
As you say needs to keep fit and keep playing well before I would want him to start him regularly. He`s been Pleasantly suprising for me. Always thought he could give defenders trouble if he apllied himself correctly.Nice to see him doing well. But for me he`s about the level of Bobby Zammora.Who had a good run of form when he was at Fullham but is nowhere near top level.

He's finally using his physique to his advantage. Defenders are scared of him because he's a battering ram who, these days, slots like a boss.

You really can't fault the lad's effort in the past year or so, nor his goal return. So keep it up Vic lid, it's great to see.
