They weren't skint, they were backed by a Thai business empire

The chairman may as well be M.Bison
No Chelsea rich or City rich or UTD rich, even if their personal wealth is, the players on show didn't and the fees paid didn't/don't compare.

It's a bigger issue than that though, City and Chelsea are a different type of Rich to UTD. I'd rather be a self made millionaire than live off of daddy's. That's the difference between UTD and the other two.

Massive traditional club with a fantastic stadium that nods to their glorious past, however their support the last 10/15 years home and away has been awful in the main for a second city team,I can recall some pitiful turnouts at Goodison from them in that period.

Yeah, of course. But I just laugh at folk bringing up pots won 100 years ago to "prove" a point.

Everyone knows that traditionally, Leeds get bigger crowds than Bournemouth, are, by any measurement, are a "Bigger" club than them, but the splitting hairs on 2 reasonably successful historic clubs to prove an internet point just bewilders me.

Each to his own I guess.

the only relevant history is what happened 12 months ago i reckon...

Why haven't we imploded like Villa?

Lerner spent a fair amount when O'Neil was at the helm trying get into top 4 and it never paid off, so he walked when Lerner told him to sell if he wanted to buy anyone, Villa never recovered . So through the same period, I believe it would be fair to suggest Everton Kenwright and Moyes never really lashed the cash, just being competitive was enough for Moyes for many years.

Was going to say the same. Big club without question but managed terribly and support nowhere near our levels of hysteria.

They are the number one club in the Midlands and generally hated by all the others. I think the whole big club stuff ended when Sky took over.

Dick waving over who is a bigger club is cringeworthy, leave it to the millenial cringe merchants in the daily mail comments section.

However if forced to give an opinion on how big a club is I'd base it on the size of their fanbase and not on their trophy count.

Trophies = how successful you are

You can have a huge a fanbase and still not win trophies.

Spurs are ridiculously massive, their waiting list is huge, villa also probably have more fans than us due to being the biggest team in a bigger city than Liverpool.

They don't mate. We've had a higher average attendance than them every season since 2012.

We also had a higher average attendance than them during the mid-1990s, when they were good and we were not, and also, curiously, when we were really crap in 1999/2000 and 2000/2001.

There were also numerous seasons in 2000s when we had a higher average attendance despite having a smaller ground with worse facilities.
