The parade was laughable.

Military hardware that’s been soundly annihilated across Ukraine rolled out as if it’s something to be proud of.

Trampy conscripts marching and cheering the despot Putin like they are in North Korea.

Their country, leadership and military are an utter shambles and they’ve unwittingly exposed their sheer incompetence to the world through a disastrous display of power.

Yep…..

There was an article yesterday, well when I say article it was in the Express so take it how you like. Anyway it was about one Russian group obliterating a fellow Russian group in ‘friendly fire’.

The Ukrainians certainly haven’t lost their sense of humour…

”To rub insult into injury, Ukraine's army promptly issued a letter thanking the Russians for their helpful contributions.

"The leadership of the 97th Infantry Battalion expresses its satisfaction with the actions of the Russian occupiers on May 8 2022.

"Using the heavy Solntsepek flamethrower system in the Zaporizhia direction they actually burned the racist occupiers from Ukrainian soil.

"Such actions are positively perceived and supported in every way by the Ukrainian military.

"We understand that there is a tradition of cooking kebabs in May.

Imagine still using flame throwers, barbaric, even by any standards

This is really where there needs to be a queue of Western leaders on the phone to him and visiting Moscow, and no more sanctions announced. If he still escalates (and mobilization would be a big one) then further measures can be taken, but the very last thing this situation needs is more "ramping up the pressure". He might ignore them all, but Russia have got to be engaged with diplomatically far more than they have been (or if we know engagement is futile, we have to be preparing our countries for the greatly increased risk).

While I totally agree "in principle", am not too sure how many western leaders he would be willing to engage with. Most have turned on him, and many have actually armed/funded/supported the Uke war effort.

I do agree though that there needs to be attempts at dialogue before the next escalation.

Mrs Yarrrgh just told me that Russian media is reporting that Kherson intends to hold a referendum to join the Russian federation. Crimean corridor phase 1 almost completed - can this ever be acceptable that Russia returns to the fold and the war ends?

Do the Russians go after a corridor to Transnistra given the heavy cost inflicted on them? Is this a point where a deal gets done for peace? Or does Ukraine try to retake the Kherson, Donetsk and Lughansk oblasts given that it's propped up by the west and losing a lot of lives?

Ukraine now has very little to lose having already been trashed by Russia, and of course they are now beginning to win this war. Russia will no doubt try and get the UN to negotiate a peace where it keeps everything it already has. I’ve no doubt that Ukraine would want to get them out completely but I also expect that the likes of Germany will be stabbing them in the back. That cretin of a VW CEO has already started the debate on behalf of Germany and Russia…..
