Current Affairs Ukraine

Ukraine now has very little to lose having already been trashed by Russia, and of course they are now beginning to win this war. Russia will no doubt try and get the UN to negotiate a peace where it keeps everything it already has. I’ve no doubt that Ukraine would want to get them out completely but I also expect that the likes of Germany will be stabbing them in the back. That cretin of a VW CEO has already started the debate on behalf of Germany and Russia…..
Unfortunately for Ukraine, its fate is more than likely to be determined by the more influential of the western countries and Russia thrashing out a deal.

I do have the long term hope that this will weaken the current power structure in Russia and a more progressive and peaceful political scene develops after this invasion which has been catastrophic in terms of casualties, destruction of military capabilities and reputational loss.

So Putin can rest easy. The UK won't come.to the aid of Sweden if they're attacked. Did he suggest an 'oven-ready' mutual defense deal?
The free world seem quite united in our response to Putin.
For now it's united.
The war is slowly evolving from a regional to a local conflict though. Soon it won't dominate the headlines anymore.

We have
1. France and Germany scratching their heads. How long will their ppl accept the high fuel prices/inflation and other consequences? Since Putin didn't escalate the war on may 9th, some feel they have to offer him another opportunity 'to land'.
2. The Poles have ambitions of their own. They feel they can gain influence if Ukraine wins this war. They feel like they can lead a socially conservative 'eastern bloc' within the E.U. and that their masculine stance on the war will help them to get there.
3. You have Hungary/Austria pushing for exemptions to sanctions
4. The UK barks a lot. The lack of international reaction underlines the international irrelevance.
5. The US are just happy whatever happens. Selling weapons and weakening the Russians at the same time. Ideal. + They're buying loyality in Europe with their actions.

It should be in everyone's interests to give him as many opportunities to stop this as possible
