You know when the wife is really upset about something that seems pretty small? Its because its not REALLY what its about. Despite how they try and pretend its all fine, you can tell by things like this that everything has hit Russia hard and little adolf's circle of besties are in a bad way. Everytime Putin screams about something and tries to drag out a new threat, hes doing so because hes feeling increasingly desperate with the walls closing in and no options.

I just chanced on this from a defense journalist who is also ex US military and clearly still pretty well connected (his insights into how Ukraine is changing the way the US is wargaming etc are very good).

This is a few weeks old, but certainly makes sense.

That's exactly it. Russia is becoming more erratic in its official statements. The cabal in charge there must be feeling the heat.

Now we know why they took out the SAM systems the other day.

My guess is Ukraine wants snake island back (possibly as it puts the port of Sevastopol in range of their Neptune missiles).

it's crazy to bring equipment there, since the island is an excellent target for missiles or ships because of its size. and, unfortunately, we will not strike at Sevastopol, since Zelensky refused to do so

Call it a shoot and scoot. Fly in by heli, unload - fire away, sink a few ships, pack up and get the hell outta dodge.

Rinse and repeat / should force them to move their fleet to the other side of the Black Sea and totally remove the threat to Odessa.

If Putin does announce mobilisation tomorrow (which I pray he doesn’t ) I hope our government have a plan ready to go in terms of radically increasing our armed forces, especially the army.

It’s a shamefully underreported scandal that those cuts they made last year haven’t been cancelled even after months of this now, but that would demand urgent action. The Army in 1989 was 300k and that would need to be the minimum required, it may even need to go higher than that.
