Just looked at logical landing spots. I have friends in that area who suggested this was an obvious entry point.

I also correctly stated tanks would roll in via Belarus, though that was more predictable

How could you possibly know that Kev! That widely publicly reported information regarding the amphibious units in the Black Sea and the tanks in Belarus was highly classified intelligence!

Was saying this to my wife yesterday, he needs stopping and only his inner circle can get to him
Historically, dictators become more and more paranoid and only listen to or trust in weak people. Anyone who can be seen as strong is sent to the periphery.

Look at Stalin with Zhukov and Hitler with so many of his generals. Sadly, I don't think there's enough people around him who've got the metal to do it.

China wouldn't attack Japan with US there or at least for a long time. The JSD is also a very well manned and equipped military. It's all fanciful talk.

That's before mentioning that China do not have the capability to attack Japan in terms of any sizeable number of troops.
An ally with a convenient set of islands just north of Japan might help.

China won't necessarily hit the military. Japan is a sitting duck. We'd need Russia back on side to protect Japan.

Taiwan might be sacrificed as Ukraine is.

What a terrible scenario.

I watched a documentary on bbc about Stalingrad the other night, and they talked about this a lot. It was just irrational decision after irrational decision, surrounded by yes men, who would get promoted over actual competent professionals.

Militarily it isn't. If you're talking about attack from ballistic missiles, perhaps. If we're talking about an invasion, not a chance. Not one. Nil. Zero.

Currently, China doesn't have the amphibious capabilities to invade Taiwan, let alone cross the Sea of the Japan in the numbers required to take Japan.

The JSDF has a relatively large blue-water navy, a strong air force and more than capable troops. They have a capable ABM system to protect from attack.

That's before talking about the US 7th Fleet. China might try to marginalise Japan politically and whatnot, but they are more than capable of holding their own.

Agree China is the one to keep an eye on.
If China take a side it will be with USA and Europe, far too much at stake economically for them to back Russia. At the end of the day money is all that matters.. Putin is making a play for Ukraine for the massive gas reserves in the west, much like in 2014 when Crimea was taken.. Money is what it's about end of. China has much more to lose by backing Russia in this.

Disgraceful from Putin and I didn't think he would go through with it

I don't see what good options there are here but doing nothing is not ok. Ukraine deserves help, but smarter people than me will have to work out how we help.
Obviously, you didn't even think Putin would go through with it. ??
