Putin is shelling/bombing the town of Kherson at the mouth of the Dnieper. Controlling that strangles all trade up and down the Dneiper. Grabbing Kherson is probably the purpose of the troop buildup in Crimea.

I should have seen that.

Putin is saying that he doesn't want to hold territory. Wise man. What is not clear is the exact nature of Putin's apparent plan to destabilize the government of Ukraine.
'Kin horrible.
There's a twitch streamer I watch sometimes who live(d) in Kyiv, now trying to get safe.

Remember the human cost of this. The lives destroyed. Innocent blood is very much on Putin's hands.

This is the whole point of the notion of sovereignty derived from the Treaty of Westphalia. If we all agree that borders are inviolate, this sort of suffering stops. Unfortunately, international relations is like football in at least one way - if we all agree to rules, being a cheat and/or exploiting the rules can confer advantages. History suggests that both footballers and world leaders find those advantages irresistible at times.

Interesting now to see how far he pushes this. At what point does he move west and south.

As I predicted yesterday Odessa has been used as a landing base in the south.

He’s gone full tilt I assume he seeks nothing less than regime change.

Honestly, for the sake of lives I hope Ukrainians lay down their weapons because no one wants to see huge loss of life. Putin is clearly hell bent on his course of action. The wests response is a joke and tantamount to telling Ukrainians to give up hope.

It is time to expel Russia from the United Nations too. Their presence is a farce after what Putin is doing to Ukraine. Time to bring Putin and his third world economy to its knees before he kills more innocent people.

I'm not sure about the expelling them from the UN part, but Vlad the Ball Bag and the Kremlin Cronies need to face the heaviest form of sanctions.

Our tact needs to change now in terms of how we deal with Russia with the more clandestine measures. Belarus needs kicking into the gutter too!

Fascinating. Meanwhile as you continue to mouth sound bites, the ground invasion is underway.

With military options from NATO ruled out, what else can be said? If santions are the avenue we've chosen, we need to utilise them to the fullest.

What I found peculiar is you fingered @Prevenger17's message, have said you hope Ukraine lays down and been squirting over Putin and his plans.

Maybe I'm wrong, but that doesn't sound particularly pro-Ukaine. I don't want deaths, far from it, but I hope the Ukrainians do fight back against this invasion.

Glory to the Ukraine! Within the next 48 hours, I wouldn't be surprised to see NATO's Eastern Flank receiving increased redeployments and hardware.

They are "freedom fighters" when they are on your side.

This is probably the endgame of any sane defense strategy. They can't win by destroying Russia's capacity to make war, so they have to destroy the political will to continue a war. The name of the game in that approach is inflicting costs. I think they'll want to use all of those goodies we've been sending to destroy as much materiel as possible. After that, they'll probably have to muck their cards sooner or later and go insurgency.
Apparently Ukranians based in the UK are headed home ready to take up arms. There's a strong chance they're be some form of guerilla / insurgent led conflict.
