I've just had a look at military power of both countries... CANCEL THE INVASION..we'd get battered, not even a fifth the size of their army and our 20 military aircraft would be no match for their 119.
They are "freedom fighters" when they are on your side.
This is probably the endgame of any sane defense strategy. They can't win by destroying Russia's capacity to make war, so they have to destroy the political will to continue a war. The name of the game in that approach is inflicting costs. I think they'll want to use all of those goodies we've been sending to destroy as much materiel as possible. After that, they'll probably have to muck their cards sooner or later and go insurgency.

It's because we have never been militarily aggressive as a country. We have a long history of participation in UN peacekeeping. Our Department of Defence is a secondary Ministry to others.

No you didn't. But you did just say "allow them to enter Ukraine in a direct, comprehensive and fundamental breach of the commitments given by (amongst others) the UK, the USA and Russia as part of the deal made back in the 1990s to persuade Ukraine to give up it's nuclear weapons".
The Russians seem to be a bit more ruthless when it comes to this kind of thing…
