I mean Russia only stopped the Nazis cos it snowed.

There was nothing heroic about it.

Army Group North:
1941
: 85,371 total casualties[4]
1942: 267,327 total casualties[5]
1943: 205,937 total casualties[6]
1944: 21,350 total casualties[7]
Total: 579,985 casualties
Soviet Union Northern Front:
1,017,881 killed, captured or missing[8]
2,418,185 wounded and sick[8]
Total: 3,436,066 casualties
Maybe in 1941, but Kursk and Bagration especially were enormous victories in open field. During Bagration in 1944 they destroyed entire Army Group Center, 28 full divisions right on plains of Poland and Ukraine.

Size and brutality of battles on Eastern front is hard to comprehend.

But again, they had like 4 times the numbers.

I just always remember WW2 being more about mistakes the Nazis made more than anything.

Of course there were many, many "great" battles and countless heroes.

Why tf can humans not live in peace with each other?

Agent Smith said it best :

I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure.

Its quite crazy how they manage to have more men when you look at the losses they suffered, especially in 1941.
They literally lost millions of men in early stage of Barbarossa, colossal encirclement , i believe just in encirclements of Kyiv in 1941, Soviets lost 900 000 men, mind boggling. More than 30 000 T-34s lost. And they still were coming and coming with even greater numbers.

It must have sapped moral of Germans seeing this, no matter how many Red divisions they destroyed, new one would turn up.

This video really shows titanic army sizes and losses

Will never understand why Hitler thought it was a good idea to snake them, he knew the numbers they had.

My mind can't comprehend World War 2's deaths. Its absolutely insane.

Well they defeated Russia in WW1 despite fighting on several different fronts simultaneously and constantly bailing Austria-Hungary ("shackled to a corpse" as that quote goes).

Then shortly before Barbarossa, Red Army embarrassed themselves in Winter War vs Finland. It probably convinced them that Russians are week. "We have to only kick a door and the whole rotten structure will come crashing down". Turned out they were wrong.

The next great war will be fought by remote control mushrooms.
