Hope the Russian sailors managed to get off that ship.

You have to think that the initial explosion would have been catastrophic for anyone one hundred or so feet either side of it, if the ammunition dump that apparently went up was a distance away from the missile hit then that could be more like 400 feet of its total 610 would have been non compatible with life.

Hopefully a lot managed to get off, but straight into choppy waters at night doesn't sound great either.

Wow they are loosing it! I love the call for war, because Ukraine attacked Russia by destroying their warship, right after saying it definitely wasnt an attack but just accidentally caught on fire. "It accidentally caught on fire and totally wasnt any attack, but war should be declared and Ukraine punished for definitely not doing anything. Also, I love how the old guy calls for war instead of the"...uh...uh... what are we calling this again?"

Its also interesting how in love they are with this one sad ship. The Russian navy is a joke, outside of destroyers and subs they are now down to 1 battlecruiser, 2 cruisers, and 1 old aircraft carrier. So far based on this invasion they dont have a functioning army, they have just about no navy, and not much of an air force. At this point they are literally just defended by nukes and high body counts.

You'd have to guess the proportional casualty rate would be between the Sheffield's 20 killed and WWII HMS Hood's 3 survivors out of 1,400. Since there Moskva seems to have had the structural integrity to float and be towed for some hours, maybe the initial deaths weren't too severe.

I know that, in a way, the greater the Russian casualties, the sooner Putin might pack in and go away, they're all still people, with mums and wives, and probably very little idea what's going on.

But again, they had like 4 times the numbers.

I just always remember WW2 being more about mistakes the Nazis made more than anything.

Of course there were many, many "great" battles and countless heroes.
Multiple factors played a part in the final victory. Russia's population in '39 was circa 170-180 million, with Germany's being roughly a hundred million less.

Russia also had immense natural resources compared to Germany, who were reliant on capturing food, oil etc. to supplement everything it imported.

In the end, Russia was able to safely move its factories and war production past the Urals, kept its oil production and could afford high attrition in many power.

Yet, many argue that Germany could have negated all the above if they'd been tactically more aware, were honest of the situation and kept Hitler from meddling.

They didn't prepare to fight in winter, they took their attention away from Moscow and then attacked across too many fronts with unmanageable goals.

All this let Russia to build an effective war machine and the inevitable happened. @stipe is right to mention Kursk, Stalingrad, Bagration and Vistula-Oder.
