See I think he does. I think he will have a position which he would meet to end this, whether it be assurances on NATO, Crimea, whatever. I don’t know what they are, but I reckon he probably would bend somewhere along the line. My view is that if something can be reached, or could have been reached, to save thousands of lives and give the West some breathing room to plan its next move then it should be.

Ultimately, western countries now have to try to appease a dictator who has shown he will use all out war to get what he wants, otherwise they engage in warfare. Nobody wants the second option, it’s about how far they’re willing to go on the first.

Is your name Matthew?

Renault have decided to do the right thing :-

Nestlé partially:-

If what Nestle say is true I think that is fair enough. A lot of the Russian people don’t want what is going on so by providing vital things for children and hospitals it makes sense. And they say they don’t expect any profits but any they get from that part of the business will go to helping the humanitarian effort. I’m not praising them as they should have made this call earlier but continuing to provide vital stuff is the right move in my opinion.

No. What is your point?

You seem a tad sceptical about Volodymyr Zelenskyy and sympathetic to Putin and his motives.

The events in Ukraine warrant only negotiations to end the war. Putin is an aggressor and a war criminal.
The dispicable acts by Russia on Ukraine and their people is a horror that must be stopped and must be
paid for. Do we not learn appeasing evil dictators?

An analysis of the posturing.

Is he threatening to use nukes, but at the same time has his fingers crossed?

Sceptical about Zelenskyy, absolutely. Find where I’ve ever been sympathetic towards Putin? One doesn’t equal the other. He’s abhorrent.

Sorry in response to you asking about diplomacy, the reply was
"Mate I don't think Putin gives a FF about diplomacy".

You said "I think he does".

You're right, he is abhorrent. The whole set up in Russia is one of dictatorship and totalitarianism. He's on an ego power trip. A complete loon. You wouldn't trust him to blow out a candle.

The issue with Putin is I don’t even think he knows exactly what his end game is in this situation. (I was going to reply to a previous post but this thread moves so quickly it’s tough to keep up).

Diplomacy works if there is an actual clear outcome. Putin has moved the goalposts constantly. He keeps on asking for different things so how do you negotiate with someone like that. Does he want to “de-nazify” Ukraine (which is laughable)? Does he want to demilitarize Ukraine? Does he want the Donbas to become independent or to take it into Russia? Does he want Ukraine to say they will never join NATO or the EU? These are conversations which will have to be had now but pre war it wasn’t clear exactly what his aim were. So how do you deal with that diplomatically?
