So ill move on to other lighter things. Something we can both agree on. I know Putin has his faults. But Spadge, can we both agree Putin putting that 'get rich of donations' Nalvany away behind bars was the right thing to do. If he's done nothing right at all previously?

Nope mate it got canned a while back as the tech needed was out of developmental reach. I think it got re-funded a few years ago so still very much in-development.

Good news is there’s still a solution (number of solutions) deployed today to counter ballistic missiles. It’s one of the main reasons Putin has kicked off in Ukraine.

Essentially it’s a layered defence based on a combination of

Patriot - PAC3
THAAD
AEGIS (ship and land based)
Ballistic Missile Early Warning System
US GMD system

The US GMD system is the closest thing to Star Wars as it deploys “kill vehicles” launched from bases in Alaska and California that supposedly can knock out an ICBM in space.

Not at a an expert, but don't think it can defend against hypersonic glide missiles, which the Russians apparently have some of, but wasn't the type they claimed to have used the other day.

They pushed it as a hyper sonic weapon, however the experts managed to track it on radar and it would appear that the khinzal is in fact a modified Iskander M (air-launched) Ballistic missile. So they don’t believe Russia has a true hypersonic missile “yet”.

And yes hypersonic is a true game-changer

Similar to the Chinese stealth jet which, to their embarrassment, is not particularly stealthy compared to western counterparts regardless of what they say.

Yes, I get the impression that the Russians are claiming to have some missiles of the hypersonic, zig-zag, up-down type, which are currently beyond defending against, but nobody has concrete evidence of this. Considering that I wouldn't believe Putin if he said up was the opposite of down, the jury must be seriously out on the existence of operation-capable weapons of this kind.

Until we develop a game changing way to bring it down. Defence technology always moves on and then improves.…

Obviously there’s a massive arms race underway to develop this technology. Once the technology is mastered then you have to develop a way to stick a payload on the missile (nuclear or conventional HE). Then you have to develop the guidance system for it.

The US (DARPA) only last year announced the first successful functional test of their own hypersonic missile so they still have a long way to go.

Funnily enough the U.K. along with Australia are leaders in the field of Scramjet technology and are also believed to be working in developing their own missiles.

So to believe that Russia or China have fully developed the tech, stuck a payload and developed a new guidance system is IMO far fetched.
