Biden really stepping up to the mark …not. Have we ever seen such a lightweight President of the USA. I know that most on here are Democrat voters but ffs this guy is a pure waste of space……

What do you want Biden to do Pete? It seems like all world leaders are pretty much stuck with two bad options: 1) try to do a little but not escalate, or 2) do more and escalate.

I agree that Biden and other world leaders don’t have good options. It is scary the perspective of a nuclear war. But I also think they should at least be open to the idea of defending a humanitarian corridor very soon, it would inhumane to allow all these people to die of hunger or because of lack of medicine and the situation is becoming more dire every day. If Putin dares to attack it then it would be him starting WWIII. I just don’t think it is right for us just to sit back and let Putin get away with all these unnecessary destruction and killings that is happening in Ukraine without doing more than just sanctions and weapon deliveries.

The west, USA, U.K., EU, etc have allowed this to go on for too long. I find it hard to believe that the UN has decided sod all and that we haven’t told Putin to bring it to an end or we will. He is like this bogeyman with nuclear weapons and he is the only one to threaten to use them. The West is too weak, not militarily because we could wipe the floor with Russia, but because they think Putin is willing to destroy Russia, and that’s what it would mean. Putin is one man, there are many who would neither follow his button pressing and would put a bullet through his head if only the West said enough is enough……

Exactly

We didn’t depose Saddam for that, for using chemical weapons, for starting two wars, or even for invading an ally.

We deposed him because the two big Western leaders of the day thought they could get away with it, and in doing so conducted the worst foreign policy disaster of the post-war period. Hundreds of thousands paid with their lives for it too. It haunts us still.
I don't doubt that Bush had ulterior motives for going there, without a doubt. All I'm saying is that pacifism and appeasement are easy positions to take when it's not you that's under the boot of someone you have no hope of getting rid of democratically.

Biden has got this right in general
The moment he commits troops or aircraft to this it’s going to get very heavy indeed, not just for Ukraine

And what will he do if Putin steams into one of the Baltic states and again Russia, via Kaliningrad, threatens nuclear weaponry…He screwed up Afghanistan, there is absolutely no way he would get involved with China/Taiwan, so why would anyone believe that he would do anything for any other country other than the USA.…..

This 100% - and the Ukrainian women too.

  • Save the Children says the millions of children who remain in Ukraine must be protected
Especially with the surrender demands of Russia rejected.
Podolyak added that it could take weeks to reach a deal with Moscow that would end the war.
The bombardments have forced more than 1.5 million children to flee the country. However, Save the Children points out that nearly 6 million children remain behind.

"The rules of war are very clear: children are not a target, and neither are hospitals or schools. We must protect the children in Ukraine at all costs. How many more lives need to be lost until this war ends?"

If it’s a nato country he will get involved
Simple really

He's just trying his best to avoid world war 3.

Ukraine: civilian casualty update 20 March 2022

Date: 20 March 2022

From 4 a.m. on 24 February 2022, when the Russian Federation’s armed attack against Ukraine started, to 24:00 midnight on 19 March 2022 (local time), the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) recorded 2,361 civilian casualties in the country: 902 killed and 1,459 injured. This included:

  • a total of 902 killed (179 men, 134 women, 11 girls, and 25 boys, as well as 39 children and 514 adults whose sex is yet unknown)
  • a total of 1,459 injured (156 men, 117 women, 22 girls, and 16 boys, as well as 60 children and 1,088 adults whose sex is yet unknown)
    • In Donetsk and Luhansk regions: 992 casualties (248 killed and 744 injured)
      • On Government-controlled territory: 756 casualties (195 killed and 561 injured)
      • On territory controlled by the self-proclaimed ‘republics’: 236 casualties (53 killed and 183 injured)
    • In other regions of Ukraine (the city of Kyiv, and Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Kherson, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk and Zhytomyr regions), which were under Government control when casualties occurred: 1,369 casualties (654 killed and 715 injured)
Most of the civilian casualties recorded were caused by the use of explosive weapons with a wide impact area, including shelling from heavy artillery and multiple-launch rocket systems, and missile and air strikes.

OHCHR believes that the actual figures are considerably higher, especially in Government-controlled territory and especially in recent days, as the receipt of information from some locations where intense hostilities have been going on has been delayed and many reports are still pending corroboration. This concerns, for example, Mariupol and Volnovakha (Donetsk region), Izium (Kharkiv region), Sievierodonetsk and Rubizhne (Luhansk region), and Trostianets (Sumy region), where there are allegations of numerous civilian casualties. These figures are being further corroborated and are not included in the above statistics.
