Fascists. Experiments with coronavirus. The Pentagon and the Golden Billion

Putin gave a speech about the Russian economy, but devoted most of it to Ukraine and the West

Part of me has always felt that Ukraine's resilient defence has, to some extent, been an inconvenience to the West as governments never expected them to stand.

There was definitely an initial reluctance to support Ukraine because it was believed to be a lost cause; when it became apparent they weren't, they were forced.

It's also now at NATO's advantage to support them beyond the protection of members' borders, but rather it's draining and destabilising their key opponent.

Maybe I'm being cynical, but the longer the war goes on the better it may be for NATO as it will diminish the threat from Russia for an even longer period of time.

The sanctions are now in place, so the damage is mainly done*. Therefore, the more Russia's government, military and economy is damaged, the safer they'll be.

I can't see Russia's military being ready for any other major operation for a good few years, at least.

*Understandably, the sanctions are also impacting on economies and thinking objectively the sooner they're removed the better. The point is it's for the long haul.

They‘ve also lost their mystique. A troop of Scouts or Cubs would fancy their chances against them with technological weaponry…..

Just watching the news on Sky about today's atrocities. It's really unforgivable that we "the west" are letting this continue. The horrors of Mariupol is sickening. I think these leaders have to stop sitting in the stands watching
while sitting on their hands, stop [Poor language removed]-footing around, stop beating about the bush, and once and for all grow a pair. How many people have to die needlessly before they say enough is enough?

What are you suggesting we do?

If we escalate, many many more innocent people will die needlessly.

Crazy to see so many ordinary people picking up a gun to defend their city - Lviv, Kiev and the other major cities could become an insurgency bloodbath if Russia tries to take and keep hold of them.

On the flip side, I worry that stuff like this will be used by Russia to justify its bombing and killing of civilians.

Again, if the UN won’t step in here because of a Russian veto, what’s the point? Is the UN fit for purpose?
I say the UN should go in, Fuk Russia and whatever Putin thinks. See what he makes of that. Go on then, what are you going to do, declare war on the rest of the world?

It's a fine line but I think it's better to take them out before they can do any more damage. To Ukraine or any where else.
But in trying to take them out we risk way more damage to the World and Ukraine specifically. I would love it if we could get all the NATO nations to go in and pummel them. But with that nutter at the helm who knows what he would do. If you were a leader of a country would you be willing to take the risk that Putin doesn’t go nuclear?

I would end this ludicrous red tape that "they will defend every inch of NATO territory". If the shoe was on the other foot and THIS was NATO territory, what's the consequence then? Are we still deterred by the nuclear threat?

Its not even a risk, its a certainty, what do people think Putin will do when facing defeat with thousands of "WE ALL LOSE" nuclear weapons at his fingertips?

This war in Ukraines sole purpose is for Putin to say "I dare you", we all better hope nobody dares.
