As far as the UK is concerned we come under NATO's Active Layered Theatre Ballistic Missile Defence (ALTBMD) programme that is supposed to provide complete coverage for NATO countries against tactical ballistic missiles with ranges up to 3,000 km. ALTBM Interceptors are based around the Aegis system deploying SM3 BIIA missiles based in Rota in spain (4 x US Aegis destroyers) - other interceptors include sites in Turkey and Romania (these are land-based Aegis sytems). Other land-based Aegis sytems are due to be installed in Poland. Not sure about how the US GMD system is setup.

I think BMD (Ballistic Missile Defence) is the one of the main reasons Putin kicked off over Ukraine as in theory it blows the principle of MAD (Mutually assured destruction) out of the water. By this I mean that an aggressor who has a BMD system could in theory launch a nuclear first strike on an opponent. Once the opponent sees the launch of nukes it would immediately launch its own missiles back (MAD). However the aggressor here employs his BMD to knock out all the incoming nukes in low earth orbit - ergo, the theory of MAD no longer exists.

My guess is that it has more to do with a disabling first strike by us, as no one presently has a reliable, demonstrated ABM capability for ICBMs to my knowledge. Most of Moscow's land-based nukes are in the western region of the country. Forward missile bases in eastern Ukraine would shorten the transit time to a lot of them dramatically, relative to the present situation. The rest of the arsenal is located relatively close to South Korea.

Nobody has hypersonic missiles yet, but that day will come. I think he's looking at warning times from launch in low single-digit minutes and considering that an unacceptable security risk. Either he would have to devolve a lot of authority for his nuclear weapons, which isn't a good idea on a number of levels, or he needs to neutralize the threat before it manifests.

Genuine question, I’ve seen videos I’d consider sharing as I think it’s important for people to understand the horrors of what’s going on however I don’t want to offend and am aware younger people use this forum. I also don’t want provide links to videos people will only use for a “get on this lad, heavy”. However they are available on social media.

Mate, personally I really don't want to watch anyone being blasted to death. It is difficult enough to look at a shattered hospital.

No mate I completely appreciate that, you know I never watch that sort of stuff. Sick videos that get passed around. I found myself watching these the other day getting upset but felt compelled to watch it and I think you’re right. We all know where to go to find that

Cheers mate. My wife and daughter are both nurses and that missile attack has really sickened me.
