One bit of good news the little girl singing the song from frozen,
a bit back in the thread , has arrived safe in Poland with her grandmother .
One of the relief charities should get her to sing that and use the money made sure it would go to number one around the world.
Would help a lot of similar kids in the same situation.
Have just written that and had second thoughts seemed a bit cynical exploiting a kid might not be a good idea?

Concerning. Cooling and safety systems need re-instating as soon as really. Wouldn't be surprised if everything was still powered up but taking off grid stops any issues happening in emergencies when there is a prolonged power cut.

Also read that comms are down with Chernobyl. Putting the place into a shroud if mystery may be tactically sound, but won't help any tensions in the area.

They had the former Ukraine Minister for Nuclear on TV before and he basically said it needs repairing asap, and they will need help doing so otherwise there is a huge risk of radioactive waste/fuel leaking into the atmosphere.

There was an interesting panel discussion yesterday of military and political analysists. There was a view that the immediate threat is that Russia will continue to level Ukrainian cities, particularly Kyiv and that the Ukrainians have already dug in. The fear was that Russia will use chemical weapons to reach hidden troops and/or flush them out. The actions employed in Syria being the model drawn from. If this happens you wonder how long the west would sit on the side-lines watching.

The storage ponds and the reactors need to maintain cooling.

This is done through cooling pumps which are electically powered.

However, the plant should be safe because these are powered by batteries.
