Looks like Russia is aiming to cut itself off from the global internet by March 11

Soz arbar me replying to my own post, but I’ve just had a lightbulb moment.

Q. Why are they planning to do this? Is it just to stop their people seeing the truth?

A. Nah they don’t give a flying one about their people. This is about something else but what?

IMO and this is just me I reckon they are planning to sever internet undersea cables as a way at hitting back at the world. I hope not as this will bring NATO into direct conflict with Russia.

I’ll need to have a look for it, however I am sure the US have previously remarked that this could be seen as an act of war if they did enough damage, which would be difficult.

@john jako and @Dylan would be the men to know, yet you’d think we’d probably try to sink their subs trying to do so. If we could of course.

There are a lot of undersea cables...wasn't there a twitter thread posted here about Russian oligarch yachts all parked near major cable hubs (the tweet showed a map of all the undersea cables and which ports had the most)? But that would seem like a major operation, yes? as it involves lots of coordination at various ports. Would this be possible?

Edit: found the thread and if you scroll through it you see the map of all the cables:

We also said if they tried it we would see it as an act of war.

One indicator was that big naval exercise they conducted in Feb off the coast of Ireland was directly above the path of a large number of these transatlantic cables.

A second indicator was the cut in January of an undersea cable linking Norway to Svalbard. Following detailed investigation the cable cut was deemed to NOT been caused by a natural event.

The Norway cut perhaps was a test-run? (pure speculation on my part).
