Read somewhere that the Russian soldier death toll is already assumed to be higher than the US death toll for the entirity of the Iraq war and the years that followed.

I know Ukraine obviously has a better army and weapons but that’s still pretty mad

They also didn't carpet bomb the crap out of Ukraine before going in did they? Been largely a ground invasion. I wouldn't take it as too much of a measure of success tbh. Two completely different tactical approaches

It'll be a blood bath although I suspect for both sides. We called it FISH and CHIPS - fighting in someone's house and causing havoc in people's streets.*

No solider, and I mean no soldier, will look forward to that, and it'll be worse if the Russians cause mayhem by using or air or artillery on the area.

Every house, basement and crater becomes a fortress. You have restricted movement, lots of technology becomes redundant and vision is totally diminished.

For the defender, lots of every day items become weapons (petrol bombs, IEDS, booby traps), while they have great protection and vision including from above.

Logistics is even more of a nightmare than it usually is - the Russians will hate this - and debris will causes lots of casualties, which are harder to extract.

The first doctrine to FIBUA* fighting is to avoid it - and that's the actual official line! *The official terms is FIBUA or fighting in built-up areas.

The US 1st Cav would agree with your synopsis.

I get the moral boundaries and limits we have, and somewhat share, but that which is "uncouth" to someone calmly sipping their drink thousands of miles away will save 5 year olds you will NEVER hear about from being blown up with bombs and watching their parents die. If fighting "dirty" is having POW's who were sent(knowingly or unknowingly to murder) read statements then I am 100% onboard the dirty fighting.

I dont know much about Zelenskyy, but he may have been the most perfect leader in the world for this war, the first major european war of the global social media age. His strong leadership is winning the war so far, but just as important is his TV/Actor/Commedian background and his understanding of how to destroy Russian PR and reach and appeal with a camera, video, and pictures. His TV presence, knowledge and awareness is worth 5 of Putins generals.

I think when he referred to millions of innocent women and children being killed and then said it was only a joke was the bottom line for many.

Some of his posts added an outside opinion which added value to this thread. Many were warmongering and ridiculous.

I didn't mind his posts but towards the end he was making very suspect claims usually backed up by unreliable sources. For example he claimed that Ukraine was deliberately holding Indian students hostage and backed it up with a Indian right-wing, pro-Putin news site. Just clear misinformation.
