Russian army is half a million strong with 200,000 reserves, I think they're some way off press ganging yet.

TBF that is the wage bill, whether they are soldiers who actually exist is another question.

I don’t believe they are dragooning people off the street (at least based on one tweet) but them discovering that a Guards tank regiment doesn’t in fact have its full complement of men or it’s fuel because someone has (or someones have) had it away would not surprise me.

Surely you're not suggesting there's generals claiming budgets for men and equipment and buying villas instead? Shocked I tell ya.

So now it’s the Russian people. When before you were talking about oligarchs influencing our government and foreign states. I really don’t know the point you are trying to make.

The point I was trying to make is that the oligarchs we’ve sanctioned (or threatened to sanction) are the ones who we might be able to use to positively influence the Russian population, large numbers of whom like the same sport and the same clubs we do. As I said having shared interests and a way in to Russian society that isn’t easy to censor is something we want.

The oligarchs we’ve not sanctioned on the other hand *are* the ones who’ve been corrupting our politics, and to a lesser extent our media.

Lebedev for instance, whose dad is according to numerous reports very close to Putin, is not sanctioned. Usmanov, who is close to no UK politicians, is. Why is that?

He has a lot of his money in this country and is said to be one of Putins 3 closest allies that is why. Also Lebedev jr has been a vocal critic of Putin hence him not being sanctioned (the opposite of his old man) he also spends most of his time in Italy.

That's an easy one. The UK government are bent and will do owt for money.

… where he invites the PM to parties with the great and the good, about which no one knows what goes on (but I’m sure we can all guess).

Usmanov is not a threat to us (the country) so much but Lebedev absolutely is.
