TBF I think she has a point; football isn’t more important than life but it is a really powerful way of evading propaganda from a regime. A full Goodison or Chelsea is much harder to portray as the enemy than Johnson or Biden are.
I don’t understand your point? She’s saying it’s unfair Abramovich is having his team “taken away” when he is actually selling it in the face of sanctions. She’s only saying this because she knows she works with/for an abhorrent state herself

Nothing stopping this happening to Newcastle over the abhorrent stuff SA is doing to Yemen.

And she knows it.

It is unfair; as bad as Russia are I don’t think Abramovich should be blamed for what Putin is doing unless it becomes clear he is complicit in it.

Going after the oligarchs is easy headline grabbing, when what we need is serious and effective measures to combat foreign state influence. Abramovich (or Usmanov) owning clubs is much less dangerous than funding of politics, media and whatnot. There’s also the considerable ties and influence *on Russians* that comes from their nationals owning clubs in the PL.

I mean, we’ve claimed we’ve gone after “Russians” when the people who took their money are still there, still running the country and it’s two major political parties into the ground. They are probably still in receipt of Russian money too, even now. Binning Roman off might feel good but I really do not see the point in the light of current events.

But the oligarchs are involved in “politics, media and what not” here. And in other countries. Abramovich has admitted in the past of using his money to influence politics.

Obviously we need to stop foreign state influence but a lot of the Russian oligarchs are part of that. They may not have official roles but they may as well have given the power they wield.

Its absolutely amazing to me the efforts people will go to do backflips to protect billionaires who have gotten their money off of the brutalization of thousands of people, where a few people are still concerned that OMG, they might have to live with only a few billion dollars, AKA more money than 1000 of us will see in our lifetime combined.

Abramovich will be okay. He got his money handed to him by Putin, he knew where it came from and the associated risks. He knows it was blood money. If his assets get seized he will just be a slightly less rich super rich guy who can comfortably live out every day of his life at a level you cannot dream of.

Thinking its unfair is mind boggling.
