We arent declaring a no-fly zone over Ukraine. That would immediately start WW3. The reality is as Russia regroups and escalates, at some point Ukraine and its people are going to be occupied, it will probably be very bloody and Im assuming the leadership of Ukraine will probably be killed. Putin isnt backing down, and as amazing as the defense of Ukraine and the defeat of the Russian forces has been so far the reality is Russia CAN just throw men at the problem.
Putin has now destroyed Russia, whether he knows it yet or not. The world is forever changed and the universal international stand against him and this kind of action is a new thing for our planet, in a new age where social media, globalization, 6 degrees of connection mean average joes thousands of miles away care and have a say. Much of what has happened has been lead by governments, but actually forced by citizens who have made it clear if the politicians dont stand up they will be gone in their own countries. Companies now are so big they can impact wars and bring countries to their knees through cutting off of services. Non-military groups such as Anonymous now wield so much power through their anonymity and talents in a digital age they can heavily impact wars and countries at times like this. Putin was so lost in his Soviet mindset he didnt know the world has changed.
At this point the questions then are how long can Ukraine hold off against the hordes, will Russians finally lead a coup or revolt against Putin(the only way I see Ukraine not being taken over), and will the unified nations of the world have the nerve to hold brutal sanctions on Russia for years to come. Putin has likely become unhinged and does actually give us the real risk of nuclear war due to his massive ego and likely early onset dementia or something. But the reality is this is a watershed moment, that so far has reflected very well on the world. At this moment, the continued resolve, determination, and heavy handed response by the world has and will chill the thoughts of any other aggressive nation from attempting something like this for a very long time. I have no doubt it has scared China, as it has been beyond even what they thought and has chilled some of their plans. But if everything waivers and we forget, in short order it will embolden this same countries who have been planning for years. Putin is not the only dictator left, and the others are intently watching because it WILL shape what they think they can and cannot do on the new global stage.
The true hope is that some higher up in the Russian government sees the imminent destruction Putin is determined to be a part of, and that things are now so bad for Russia decides he must act and removes Putin from power. The second hope is the army becomes so desperate they begin to revolt. It usually takes the first to encourage the second, and embolden the third. The third and weakest hope is somehow Ukraine score a brutal victory when Russia throws all they have at them after their regroup.
