This is going to sound bad but, if ever you prayed for someone to just die horribly and in pain, it would be for Putin.
I'd be quite content if he slipped on a wet tile, banged his head and died. As long as he goes, the job is done and the world would be a better place.

One of the most likely options would be for one of his body guards to slot him with two rounds in the back of the head.

It is for him to tell his people that he achieved his objective and "saved" the people there -- like he claimed.

Thats his option really to come out of this with something he can claim is a win.

The two breakaway regions and perhaps a land corridor to Crimea is the best he can hope for and as long as Ukraine agree to leave those areas alone military then that could be seen as a success.

As good as can be expected, when you invade a country

Clearly they could have levelled Kiev for example.

You're are right that they could, obviously if you flatten a country inflicting that kind of human casualties though it's going to make it very difficult to control without having a huge force on site - which would be very costly to maintain.

Putin probably wanted to be seen/or sell himself as a liberator so get in and out with as little damage as possible. The first of his miscalculations by the seem of it.

No, he will want nato and eu commitments as well. Not a chance he will accept anything less.

Unless he scores a decisive victory he is unlikely to get that, you see the opinion across Europe, are they going to just drop Ukraine leaving them exposed to this again? His actions handed Ukraine to the EU wrapped in a nice little box with a bow on top. There might be wiggle room with the wording, for instance no NATO/EU exercises on Ukrainian soil though.

As said unless he gains a complete win now he will have to eventually compromise. I want doesn't always get.

Well if that’s their attitude they certainly won’t hand him Donbas and Lughansk either
