Take your tinted glasses off and truly read certain posters posts and honestly say some aren't.

Anyone calling for constant escalation is by definition a warmonger or suicidal.

Every single person in this thread has stated that they want an end to the war, it’s just that your idea of an escalation and what others are is what the discussion is.

Fair enough mate, my work offers me a lot of insight into security levels etc but mostly around the Middle East.

As far as I'm concerned it's just more posturing from Putin; I don't think he's stupid enough to engage in MAD.

Yeah it’s a bit of psychological warfare. Designed to cause a bit of panic. As others have said Putin knows he’ll get to the table soon enough once Trump is in. Why bother with nukes when he’ll get swathes of territory come the new year.

If Russia believes the actions of NATO presents an existential threat to the state then 100% it would strike, and Xi worrying about the financial implications wouldn't even factor into it.

To think otherwise shows zero understanding of Russia.

Something on the news the other day got me thinking. Apparently it takes an ICBM something like 20 minutes to get from Russia to the UK. It almost seems pointless the authorities warning anyone that they are on their way. What can you do in 20 minutes

No idea what motivates people to want to cheer all this on - and that's what they're doing.

I cant believe they dont have family they dont care about. They have to. So Imagine having a dad or grandad posting stuff on social media advocating that this war should go on and no one should back down from a threat like this? You'd be flabbergasted knowing they'd had half / most of their lives but weren't that arsed if you had hardly any life at all in comparison. Image having parents or grandparents like that!

It's just inconceivable to me.

Ultimately all that matters is what Russia thinks is an escalation.

May sound cold, but those are the facts, because for NATO it's essentially a proxy, for russia it's existential. Doesn't matter one jot in reality if NATO does something they say/think isn't escalation if Russia regard it as such, and in terms of a nuclear war that's a very important thing to factor in.

The Cuban missile crisis stopped at the brink because Kennedy realised this. My biggest fear is on the US side nobody even thinks about anything other than how they perceived it

Yea I didn't mention what the Ukraine thinks, and it's because ultimately when you are dealing with two nuclear super powers what the Ukraine thinks won't decide anything. Cold, but realistic.

So because Russia say it’s an escalation, that means that people on this forum are warmongers & happy for the war to continue?

End of the day, Russia should have thought about their borders the day they invaded Ukraine. There was absolutely no chance on this planet the Ukrainians were ever going to sit there and let untouched Russian equipment hit every single Ukrainian city. It was ridiculous to say otherwise.

It’s closer than ever to a full scale NATO/Russia clash but a nuclear war? NATO & Putin aren’t stupid & nobody wins in that outcome. Medvedev? The likes of him are far more of a concern but while Putin & soon to be Trump are about, there’s no chance it’ll turn nuclear.

I want the war to end yesterday but I can also recognise that Ukraine have a full right to defend their land & legally use all equipment given to them. It’s strange how it’s always the Ukrainians escalating with certain people but not Russian war crimes & genocide?
