If it were a ICBM they are usually used as a method of deploying strategic nuclear warheads, so it would be a huge symbol of escalation from Russia.

Thankfully whatever this was, it wasn’t a nuclear warhead equipped ICBM, but still very worrying
The ballistic missile they fired at Dnipro could also carry nuclear warheads. So it’s simply a matter of how far they can fly,

The one at Dnipro will reach up to 3000Km so it could hit any major city in Western Europe. So no real difference between an IRBM and an ICBM as far as we’re concerned in Europe.

It does concern me a lot this and that they would go straight for London. I saw a map the other day that said if London got hit the blast radius would reach all the way down here towards Sussex and down as far as Portsmouth, which they would most likely want to also hit as its a huge Navy base. I'm a goner basically.

It won’t happen. The fear of mutual destruction will see to that

Nothing to see here.

UN says Russia's use of intermediate-range missile 'worrying'

The United Nations says President Vladimir Putin's confirmation that Russia used an intermediate-range missile in this morning's attack on Dnipro is "worrying".

"This is yet another concerning and worrying development. All of this (is) going in the wrong direction," UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric says, according to the AFP news agency.

He went on to call on all parties to de-escalate the conflict.

“Whether it was an ICBM or an IRBM, the range isn’t the important factor,” Fabian Hoffmann, a doctoral research fellow at Oslo University who specialises in missile technology and nuclear strategy, told Associated Press. “The fact that it carried a MIRVed [multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle] payload is much more significant for signalling purposes and is the reason Russia opted for it. This payload is exclusively associated with nuclear-capable missiles.”

A few lads on GoT reckon it's fine and Russia's bluffing Dave, don't worry about it. Just like the were bluffing in 2014, just like they were bluffing in 22 when they warned what they would do if Minsk wasn't applied.

Any person who is not absolutely terrified at how close this is to escalating beyond saving is either a troll, idiot or a psychopath.

People speaking with zero understanding of Russia, it's people or it's psychology. Gas station with nukes etc. strange that it's just moved up to the fourth largest world economy ahead of Germany and Japan this year by the world bank and IMF rankings.

About to coup Putin, really, who exactly, it's quoting from what the neo cons hoped for, same neocons who come February are gone from influence and dho trump has just railed against the other day.

It's kind of surreal - Putin gets called a psychopath on here often, ok so push a psychopath with six thousand nukes into a corner and how does he respond?
Force a coup - who replaces him, if you have ANY idea about the Russian ruling class you'd know Putin is a super moderate.

The only posters on here with a genuine knowledge of Russia and there have been four I most definitely know had that knowledge through family or experience being there - all got shouted down by the guys who seem to think they are moving in some computer game with no consequences.

MAD btw has been referenced just above, it's mutual assured self destruction, the basic premise of why two nuclear super powers never would go to war v each other directly, look at this thread and see just how many of you suggest direct involvement, which in essence we now have, don't you actually realise there is a reason during the cold war neither side directly acted v the other in an overt military sense.

Soon as ATACMS got used inside Russia proper - that became Americans entering targeting coordinates into weapon systems to hit inside Russia, let that sink in and why Russia just responded with the strike they made, its a warning shot to back the [Poor language removed] down. But the GoT warriors want to escalate further - absolutely insane.

Even saw above from Mr 5k let's push Russia into a corner, yeah push a bear into a corner - there's a reason there's an idiom saying never to do that, but hey ho.

Who said it was fine Chico?

The conversation was in reference to if it was a ICBM or not.

You need to stop getting so emotional about it all.

Simple answer, the variant used with the warhead wasn't, but it can be, meaning it was sent as a warning directly to the European NATO members, specifically Britain and the UK.

Si no one is getting Nuked mate...Xi will put a lead on Putin before any nukes started flying.

Especially the bombing of a financial hub like London.

Just the financial implications alone of nuking a city like London would be globally catastrophic.

Can't believe we're having this conversation.

Iskander has been used by Russia within Ukraine which can contain a nuclear warhead.

Yup but the RS26 which this was was supposed to have been an abandoned program in favour of the AV system about 6-7 years sgo, so unlike whst you initially saud, this wasn't an 'old' system, it was one the west didn't even know waa active.

The payload differential is huge btw

If Russia believes the actions of NATO presents an existential threat to the state then 100% it would strike, and Xi worrying about the financial implications wouldn't even factor into it.

To think otherwise shows zero understanding of Russia.

We had seriously concerning conversations today at work during a teams meeting about how far this could go, I’m not normally one to concern myself with things I can’t control, however today was quite different I must admit. Lots of people on here far more knowledgeable on these matters than myself, anyone here think this could go the whole Hogg to worst case scenario?

What do you do for a living mate?

I’ve already commented on RS26 and its definition of it being a ICBM or not. That’s what the discussion on here’s been.

On a side note, it’s getting abit tedious both you & some other posters repeatedly on here claiming posters are warmongers & want the war to continue. It might seem like I’m nibbling here (probably) but it needs packing in.
