Poppycock! Ukraines problems are directly a result of the west dithering and allowing Putin to do as he likes for the last twenty years. That is the root of the problem.
100% he was allowed to just walk in 10 years ago and take Crimea if there was even a minimal defence offered to Ukraine back then, we wouldn't be seeing this mess now.. Apeasment has never worked and never will.

Never heard of them. What do you mean by ethnic cleansing though? Favouring the Russian language over Latvian? Hardly Bosnia or Gaza is it?

Mass deportations, sent to Gulags, thousands dead, replaced by ethnic Russians. The definition of ethnic cleansing.

You’re not downplaying ethnic cleansing because the numbers aren’t as “big” as Bosnia or Gaza are you Dave?

I'm not downplaying anything. Russians in Latvia now are marginalised in that society. Should we call that out too? Russians in the east of Ukraine getting 'ethnically cleansed' by the Azov battalion got us into this mess.

It's a bit of a blunt tool to unless, as in Gaza or Bosnia, the terminology really does fit the bill.

Russians are deporting ethnic Ukrainians in the Donbas & replacing them with ethnic Russians, it can go round and round.

We’re talking about why these countries joined NATO & instead of everything being the west this and the west that, MAYBE just MAYBE it’s potentially also down to Russian ethnic cleansing & interference in those countries for centuries

Would you agree Dave?

Looks like Field Marshall von @davek was wrong then?
Probably the wrong thing to call @davek out on in fairness. The increase in numbers haven't been taken from the Pokrovsk front. Big move from non-Ukrainisn facing troops plus a lot from the south not directly involved.

Given that Ukraine have moved people from Kursk to Pokrovsk and seen a collapse in Kursk albeit with an interesting counter offensive just west of the main area of occupied Kursk, then the commentator appears to be twisting the facts to cover Ukraine's tactical blunder.

Interestingly, I can see Pokrovsk lasting out until 2025 if Ukraine can manage the surrounding areas and not let it be cut off. That could be sold as the Kursk offensive's payoff.

@davek knows this is in jest, and he's been on this forum as long as I have an knows how to give and take in the cut and thrust of debate. Indeed, @davek referred to me similarly and firstly, some time back in this thread. I took it in jest. It was amusing.

I don't agree with @davek on many points, but I respect him as he's tenacious in debate as I am.

As for Ukraine, things are certainly not perfect. But they are engaged in a life and death struggle with a government and autocrat (Putin) that is intending to subdue and oppress their democratic rights as a sovereign state

They didn't invade anyone (until they were invaded) and are not the aggressors. History has shown when aggressors are not confronted, they become more aggressive.

That is incorrect. The latest news is they are - taking troops from Pokrovsk

That's like something straight off the NATO homepage.

In reality there's been a struggle to race to Russia's borders. The name of the game is to impose western market values on the whole Europe - in fact, the land mass from the Atlantic through to the Pacific.

So you do or don’t agree, Dave?
