They've made a call for help to Russia, as well as to various other bodies (including the European Parliament, and the UN).
Too early to say whether this is another coordinated thing or whether its something that could be solved with a bit of negotiation and compromise (the recently imposed tarriffs that Moldova have put on trade between the two could be removed for example). Hopefully if the latter is the case then someone sensible does that, rather than kick off even more nonsense.

It is certainly Russian backed. If Russia is bringing Transnistra into play then they must think that it will be to their benefit. It separates off that little bit of Ukraine to the South East and potentially offers 2 fronts onto Odessa. Conversely if Ukraine gets back up to speed in weeks rather than months it's easily isolated and they could give it a good kicking.
Trouble ahead whatever happens.
