Why would the Ukrainians have a very good idea? This is a conscripted army don’t forget - new people roped in every day presumably and sent to the front line and who knows what happens then exactly ? Like for like is replaced I assume

It is the fact its a mostly conscript army that makes it really clear that they know the casualty figures with a high degree of accuracy - if they didn't, they wouldn't know who to conscript or when to replace the conscript after they were killed, captured or maimed.

Was talking about the administration of a military. Reasonably sure similar memorials will be in France and Belgium etc etc. But your evidence will pop up soon, no doubt.

The interesting part is not the prosp[ect of them taking place but the clear daylight between Republican and Democratic parties on the issue.

This war will be front and centre in US politics from January or Februrary next year and it'll polarise the country behind Biden or Trump...and I think Trump will get big momentum from it.

I actually think Reichsfuhrer Kev is right, it must be hard for the Ukrainians to count their dead and wounded because their primitive language only allows them to count up to seven.

Getting the conscript to where they are needed requires knowledge of how many people are in the army, their current status and where the gaps are. There is not much evidence on either side that they don't know this.

As for the Germans, yes they probably knew very well the size of their armies - the only gaps would have come when units went down en masse (like 6th Army at Stalingrad), when the records would have been lost along with the army and so they wouldn't know who had been killed, captured or missing. German military record-keeping was actually very advanced (ironically with the deliberate knowledge beforehand of IBM).
