There's a lot claimed of a breakthrough this week. I think that chimed in with Zelensky's visit to Washington so I'm sceptical.

In any case, winter is a natural brake on this war and the Russians will use it to further bolster its line of defence.

The `Intenational Red Cross - and western government's, if they are at all interested in allowing it - should be pressing for a ceasefire when the possibility of significant breakthrough is more or less parked for 4 months or so
Depends on how much further south Ukraine get... if supply routes come within range of artillery then they'll spend the winter picking off Russians as they attempt to bolster defensive lines. The biggest Ukrainian gains last year came in October and November, if something similar happens this year you could well see Russia desperate to get back to negotiations by spring next year.

Actually think the hardline approach from Zelensky in terms of negotiations and what they want, tells you they know the Russians won’t negotiate

They weren't against the level of fortifications in place now though.

We wrote that the Office of the President will convince everyone that the counteroffensive will not stop with the thaw so as not to put an end to the Azov operation.

Zelensky also predicted at Thursday's meeting with U.S. editors that Ukrainian forces would de-occupy two more cities captured by Russia. He did not say which ones.
And contrary to the expectations of military analysts from the West, Mr. Zelensky said Ukraine would fight all winter, without pause.
