I've no interest in strategy and tactics and weaponry. I don't fetishise war. My concern is that peace happens sooner rather than later. You can bet your bottom dollar every citizen in Ukraine want that after getting another missile pummelling from Russian forces last night.

But as I understand it these long-range missile would put Crimea in the sights and supply lines in the land corridor between Crimea and Russia. So not getting them is a major - if unexpected - blow to a counter offensive that's crawling forwards.

Ukraine are moving heavy artillery past the fighting positions for the first time. Fast infantry fighting vehicles ( lynx and Swedish CV90s) as well for the first time.

The breach has been steadily widened around Verbove over the last couple of weeks, presumably they feel they've destroyed enough artillery delivery pieces and anti fire batteries in the area they can start to bring in what they've been holding back.
