He has lots of support - but one wonders what the point of all the propaganda, vote rigging and the rest is if the system is genuinely that popular.

About 170000 Ukrainians have been housed in the UK since the war started, many by volunteer families who had the space/etc to help. I applied, but as a single male and living in a remote (by UK standards) village, I was very much at the bottom of the list.

That's a very moderate effort by the UK when Ireland - a country more than 10 times smaller than the UK - has taken in 90,000. Germany has taken in over 1 million. There is no doubt that the UK government made it very difficult for Ukrainians to arrive - they were even threatened with a trip to Rwanda at one point.
