Im just wondering why you are trying to blame The West for all this.

It either takes Russia to pack up or go home, which is unlikely
or Ukraine to pack up and concede land to the evil invaders

How do you propose we make it happen Dave? And which outcome is more palatable for you?
The west have their role in this - NATO expansionism especially. That was a factor amongst others for the war to happen.

Reality has to bite soon though. For all the talk of breakthroughs and square miles retaken, it's all very small beer. The counter offensive has failed big time and the sooner this turns to jaw jaw and away from war war the better.

My guess is that the Russian occupiers will retain land taken as anything less would result in Putin's destruction.

So you think Ukraine should concede their land?

Im just sorry that this forum wasnt around in 1939, would have loved to have heard your thoughts on Hitlers invasion of Poland.

This is a vastly different situation. The Russians aren't going to go after other land in Europe, they want a buffer from the NATO expansionism that's taken place since the fall of the Berlin Wall.

This NATO expansion gets trumpeted time and again.

To my knowledge, no country is forced to join it. They ask, pass the exam, get a certificate, and sorted. Why do they want to join it? Maybe the events over the last 18 months might yield a clue.

What a step forward for mankind.

Cluster bombs and depleted uranium missiles. It's a good job they're being sent by the 'greatest democracy' in the world otherwise they could end up damaging military AND civilian poulations. Luckily democratic bombs dont have dust particles that will be inhaled by civilians.
depleted uranium shells, it's a density thing. specific to knocking out armour.

That picture is too small for my eyes, so no idea what it shows.

But you think that Putin will just stop at Ukraine do you? Why?

And why is "NATO expansionism" a bad thing? What possible reasons would you or Putin object to a collective defence pact?

Not sure about that Dave. Just like the Soviet Union collapsed you will see something likewise again. Did you notice besides Hungary most of the ex-Soviet satellites who understand human atrocities unlike you and me that are a part of NATO are arming to the teeth because of the threat Putin provides. Corruption eventually feeds on itself. Putin is going on a dead-end street at breakneck speed.

The gamechanger nobody expected before the war is Finland and Sweden wanting to become members of NATO. That should be very telling.

Each to their own and all that but I will never understand the mindset of colonialist warmongers like @davek and @Kev The Rat

All the excuses in the world cannot excuse this mindset and its disappointing to know that fellow blues could be of this disposition.

Quite simple realy, both hate democracy, but for slightly different reasons and for us all to live yurts.

Dave wants to ride around on his bike, covered in bin bags, screaming MURDERER at people.

Kev, just wants to nuke everyone.

The problem with this analysis dave is that its Russian (and Soviet) actions throughout history who make states on the periphery of Russia want to join NATO, and the desire to improve the quality of life of most of the population that makes them want to join the EU. I am not sure why this should be a surprise to anyone - what Putin was offering in Ukraine with Yanukovych and that ilk was a worse level of dependency on a foreign power and absolutely blatant corruption; any state on that basis would be extremely vulnerable to what happened in 2014.

Even things like stripping off Crimea and the LPR / DPR were self-defeating; of course Ukraine was going to become more anti-Russian when you remove a huge chunk of the pro-Russian population. They created the anti-Russia on their borders via these changes, not NATO.

Did they say that after Chechnya? Did they say that after Georgia?

Nope this is all about Putin attempting to restore Peter the Great’s Rus empire. It’s purely about imperialistic expansionism using the growth of NATO as a convenient excuse.

The Mayor of Boryspil in Kyiv Oblast, Volodymyr Borysenkohas joined Ukrainian Armed Forces.

“Everyone should be ready to defend #Ukraine. Society must realize that when one of the soldiers is wounded or, God forbid, dies, another must step in. It doesn't matter who you are: a mayor, lawmaker, entrepreneur, driver, mechanic,” Borysenko wrote on Facebook.
