Why has nobody other nuclear armed nation thought to do this through numerous conflicts against enemies with air power?

Because it's an insane escalation that achieves nothing conventional weaponry couldn't and unites the entire world against you.

TBF its not an escalation in Russian doctrine, equally when has a nuclear power been on the receiving end of being humiliated the way the Russians are in conventional warfare?
I don’t dispute it would be an insane escalation, but I find the entire war a bit nuts. Prior to Salisbury and Litvinenko, Russia using NCB materials on UK soil would have been considered an insane escalation, didn’t stop him though.

In reality, Russia stopping Russian aggression is the cleanest way to end this. If a non Putin aligned factor force out Putin and bring this war to an end, it will be easier to bring Russia back onside and repair the damage done.

It may be that it's the only solution that stops this clean.

I totally agree. But in the whole scheme of things this group is nothing more than an irritant to Putin and his cronies. Now F-16's in the mix should send shockwaves to Putin and holding on to Crimea and his Black Sea fleet. Gamechanger.

The F-16 is capable but it is still going to face the same problems that the current Ukrainian AF has to put up with, and they are precisely the sort of things that the Russian air defence were designed to deal with.

Nah. They will bring some definate advantages to the Ukes over what they have currently.

The F-16’s they will get have gone through MLU and are the equivalent of C/D block 50/52 variants. Which means they can carry the AIM-120D, AIM-9X, and IRIS-T air-air missiles effectively increasing their engagement radius to 85 miles. They have upgraded radar, flight controls and EW packages and more importantly will be the increase in the ukes air-ground capability as they can carry JSOW, JDAM, glide bombs and best of all a single F-16 can carry two Harpoon anti-ship missiles.
