The 'Russian forces' didn't behead that poor bloke, some monstrous individuals within those forces did. I don't care how badly those particular guys get treated if they ever get captured, but this incident shouldn't trigger a general carte blanche for the Ukrainian to mistreat any Russians they come across.
The rhetoric for a year has been to dehumanise all Russians. It's already in many heads.

There are countries we've ruined who see us in the UK the same, who'd love to have a crack at every single one of us, but people find that hard to believe...

I’d tend to agree if this was an isolated incident, however this is just another incident in a long line of atrocities committed by the Russian armed forces.
It’s a pattern of rape, torture, castration and now beheading of POW’s. Along with the specific and deliberate targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure it gives the impression that this abhorrent behaviour is endemic and institutionalised within their armed forces.

It serves no other purpose than to strengthen the resolve of the Ukranian people to kick these monsters out of their country.

But there'll be a huge number of conscripts who don't want to be there and their only focus is to get home one day and not die. If i was ever conscripted that would be my only aim, I wouldn't care about the war, just survival.

Blanket bad treatment of prisoners of war is inviting the same back at you, especially if they've surrendered

Same as any war with conscripts and POWs though

They’ve got form for this. Same things happened in Chechnya, Georgia and Syria.

Let them be treated with the same respect, that Russian forces afforded that poor surrendered/captured Ukranian soldier.

That poor Ukrainian soldier didn't want to be in this situation either. It's war mate. All sense of fair play goes right out the window.

You are excusing war-crimes...

All sense of fair play doesn't, or shouldn't, 'go out the window'. Restraint and level-headed thinking is required. A tit-for-tat response won't help. It escalates the situation. Both parties should be looking to de-escalate.

Let's not forget that Russia has been churning out murderers and rapists from their prisons to fight on the front line. And they are fighting alongside young men who are probably honest, decent individuals and don't want to be there.

Treat others as you wish to be treated yourself... if everybody followed this principle, the world would be a happier place...

This involved my old squadron.

The Russian Su-27 had missile lock on the RAF RivetJoint. The RJ then started pumping chaff and flares and went into a steep dive heading for the sea when the Russian AA missile actually left the rail but then malfunctioned. It happened last October.

Very lucky indeed.
What do you think would have happened if the Russian missile downed the RJ? Would we have tried to de-escalate? I guess it would depend on the nature of Russia's apology or lack of...
