France is probably in a very similar situation. Whilst not prominent in Afghanistan, the French army was heavily involved in similar activities in Chad and Niger.
Same domestic problems also concerning c o l, pay and pension reforms. General law and order issues, not forgetting immigration.
It would not be popular to spend more on arms for Europe, the current squeeze is already too much.

Not popular but necessary.

Europe has been guilty of sleepwalking into a position of vulnerability whilst it's enemies (I won't sugar-coat it, the word is correct) plot against it.

An extended peace has given us a false sense of security, hopefully this is the wake up call needed but a unimaginably sad price that innocent people have had to pay.

France has riots on its streets and general unrest so you can understand that Macron is not crazy to put more resources into a war on the other side of the world especially for a non-NATO country like Taiwan. It's easy to understand that the US take the same stance over Ukraine in that case.

Add into all this war fatigue and domestic issues at home and government changes in the offing potentially in the west and it's crisis point In the making for Ukrainian support.

Not a warm glowing long term picture for anyone really.
Macron is still smarting about being left behind in the AUSUKUS submarine deal.

Rubio is just sensationalising.

Yep, France got their pantalons pulled down by that. Having said that, they were charging through the nose and not delivering so they have to look at themselves on that as well.

Rubio is of course playing to his gallery but you know how that can gain traction in the blink of an eye. That presidential election next year and the run up is key. Just did a quick search on US public opinion and it's now at 48% in support of backing Ukraine but dropping. That's a concern.

Even if true, they're probably located at the embassy and that's a harsh yet fair summary of our diplomats.
You wouldn't require fifty special forces troops protecting an embassy or key locations. Anywya, the RMP CPU would be the unit who'd take most that load.

I posted this nearly a year ago, and I suspect it still stands.
UFSK have had some level of involvement in every major world conflict in the last forty to fifty years, so of course they'll be around in some shape or form.

I'd be surprised if they're anyway near the front line: it'll likely be to provide training and to help support decision making.

It was an attempt at a joke. I would be surprised that the numbers are so low for the US just for Intel let alone a more active role.

The murky world of the US intelligence and blurred lines of contractors and whatnot will likely mean they'll have contingents of people from the CIA and others.

These won't be down as SOF, or they simply don't know they're there. Anyway, the Russian response to this is the most interesting part of it.

It flips from them not knowing much at all to rampant paranoia of being infiltrated at a high level.

I did chuckle when I saw the breakdown of supposed deployed SF by nation.

In the “leaked” report it states that there is 1 Dutch SF operator deployed in Ukraine!

1!!! He must be really, really hard. Wonder if it’s Chuck Van Der Norris.
