Are they classed as refugees though? Are they being persecuted in their own country? I think the legal eagles would have a field day.

I think that refusing to take part in a war they don't believe in and would be prosecuted for if they didn't take part is a solid reason for requiring asylum.

I suppose it depends on whether they can conscientiously object or whether they'll be imprisoned for doing so. The article I linked also suggests that it matters whether the army you'd be conscripted into would be guilty of atrocities, which I dare say might also apply in this instance.

I suppose it depends on whether they can conscientiously object or whether they'll be imprisoned for doing so. The article I linked also suggests that it matters whether the army you'd be conscripted into would be guilty of atrocities, which I dare say might also apply in this instance.

Pretty sure the leaked legislation that alerted people to the mobilisation a day early said that conscientious objectors would get 15 years in prison. I find the logic that people who don't want to fight should stay and overthrow Putin a little flawed after that...not as if they'll be seeing the light of day again realistically. We're then just punishing them for being Russian

Psychopathic and religious fanatic heads of state aren't that impressed with Nato membership. And anyway as we're seeing on a daily basis the Russian army is a joke,more of a danger to it's own troops than anyone else. Finland and Sweden joining was a purely political move.
